I’ve been accused of being a bit too dismissive with the Lawrence Vickers fans in the past. I just felt at some point the Vickers talk became a rallying cry for those who just wanted yet another thing to pile on the Browns because they weren’t winning games. Maybe that isn’t fair to do with such a blanket statement.
Lawrence Vickers dominated the voting in this category. The Browns had a guy basically under control who had every desire to be back in Cleveland. He was clearly better than anyone the Browns had on their radar and unless there were some other factors that we don’t know about, it was a clear miss by Tom Heckert and the front office to let him walk.
How much difference he would have made this year is anyone’s guess and this is my biggest point of contention with the Vickers fans. While I agree with them, it probably wasn’t even one win difference I’m thinking. I could be wrong.
Anyway, on with the voting. Lawrence Vickers scored 3222 first place votes. Terrelle Smith came in second with 161. The book hasn’t been closed on rookie Owen Marecic, but he certainly left Browns fans unimpressed so far as he scored 18 first place votes and only 260 second place votes. My buddy Dan and Marc Edwards’ family are all really sad that he didn’t do better in the voting.
