WFNY Photo Contest: Winner Gets Tickets to Cavs-Clippers
February 2, 2012Indians Agree to Terms with RP Rafael Perez
February 2, 2012On February 2, 1981, the Associated Press reports of Cleveland Browns quarterback and NFL MVP Brian Sipe throwing the only touchdown recorded by the AFC during that very season’s Pro Bowl. Unfortunately for Sipe, playing in the annual recognition game a mere one month after the infamous Red Right 88 game, he lost a fumble and threw two interceptions. He would go on to complete 10-of-15 passes for 142 yards. Cleveland’s Sam Rutigliano was the AFC’s head coach.
This contest was reportedly the first ever NFL game played in the month of February. Players on the winning NFC team received $5,000 while players on the AFC team were each rewarded $2,500.

Sipe was still twice as good as Derek Anderson. Anderson’s Pro Bowl appearance was amazing for its awfulness. In a game where the defense isn’t even trying, he was terrible, missing wide-open receivers all over the place.
Sipe was my first sports hero when I was a little kid. I vaguely remember this game.
