The Cleveland Indians have acquired a reliever from the Atlanta Braves organization for cash. According to Lindsey Foltin from 92.3 the Fan, Asencio led the International League in saves for Gwinnett in 2009 and 2011.
Asencio was battling Yahan Flande for the final spot in the Braves’ bullpen and apparently lost the battle as he is headed to Cleveland.
We’ll see what this means for the Tribe bullpen. It could be a concern of the team related to closer Chris Perez’ health or it could just represent an opportunity to bolster the pen overall. We’ll see shortly as the Indians will presumably have to make a move to make room on the roster.
