The Cavaliers and Cleveland Fans Very Familiar With NBA’s Trade Deadline
March 2, 2012Cavaliers sign Manny Harris to second 10 day contract
March 2, 2012The question of whether it would be Ubaldo Jimenez or Justin Masterson on opening day has been answered and Masterson is getting the nod. The 6’6″ 26 year-old had a pretty impressive year last year for the Tribe winning 12 games with a 3.21 ERA for the year. Masterson was a workhorse too, starting 33 games for the Indians.
It is a nice honor to get the nod as the opening day guy, but ultimately it doesn’t mean that much. Last year’s opening day starter was Fausto Carmona / Roberto Hernandez. That show of support from the Indians to Hernandez ended up sending him on his way to 15 losses and an ERA north of 5 for the season.
Anyway, Masterson gets the nod over Ubaldo Jimenez who looks to regain his #1 form that he established as a member of the Colorado Rockies.
Indians opening day is Thursday April 5th in Cleveland against the Toronto Blue Jays. No word yet as to who Masterson will be up against.
You can still get opening day tickets for as little as $15 from WFNYTickets.

Good for him. Makes that Victor trade a little more palatable.
I like it. Not only does Justin deserve it but it keeps the pressure of Jimenez to ensure his head is on straight.

I can assure you his competition will be LL Cool J look-a-like Ricky Romero

Only a little more palatable? Just last year Masterson put up a 4.1 WAR, pretty much equal to what Victor put up in the last year and a half we had him under contract. And of course, Masterson is under contract for three more years, and Hagadone is about ready to break into the majors. The Indians swindled the Red Sox.
That was a good trade for us. Victor was already rapidly approaching full time DH status before his latest injury. The Indians made the mistake of overpaying a full time DH once before, they were wise not to make that mistake again. Dont get me wrong, I liked Victor but trading him was the right move. If only we had gotten as much for Cliff Lee.
I have to agree with this. The Victor trade dwarfs the C.C and Cliff trades. I mean I like Lou Marson and all…..
