The silver lining for the Browns and other observations from a strange Cleveland sports weekend

March 12, 2012With the dust beginning to settle on the order for the 2012 NFL Draft, Sporting News’ draft guru Russell Lande has the Cleveland Browns selecting Texas A&M quarterback Ryan Tannehill with the fourth-overall selection.
Per Lande:
By making a strong attempt to trade up, the Browns made it clear they don’t believe in Colt McCoy, so they reach a little bit and grab Tannehill to build around him.
Stanford’s Andrew Luck and Baylor’s Robert Griffin III go with the first two selections. The Browns would inherently select the third-best quarterback with the fourth pick. Not expecting the Browns to re-sign Peyton Hillis, Lande follows up the selection of Tannehill with Virginia Tech running back David Wilson with the 22nd-overall pick.
Chris Steuber, formerly of Scout.com, lists Tannehill as the 40th overall prospect, but states that he will certainly go higher due to team desperation.
ESPN’s Todd McShay recalibrated his latest mock draft to reflect the recent trade between the Redskins and Rams, landing Alambama running back Trent Richardson in Cleveland with the fourth pick. Defensive tackle Michael Brockers is McShay’s pick for 22nd.

Even if we do re-sign Hillis, Wilson wouldn’t be horrible with our other first or second rounder. Wilson is lightning quick… Sproles-ish. VT let a rabbit loose in the stadium and Wilson caught it
I can honestly say this would be the worst case scenario for the brownies. We address two positions that we maybe need and tbh, don’t really upgrade at either! We would just forge onwards with our terrible, slow receivers and our tremendous lack of depth on the defensive side. We need to get PLAYMAKERS and neither of these guys fits the bill.
Poppycock. And his Christian name is Venereal Diseasel McScrubface. And he’s awesome as Riddick. So there.
This would put us further back in any development of a winner. We need playmakers – receivers. Since no free agents of any value will come to Cleveland, the Browns need to draft someone to catch the ball. I am not fond of Big 12 QB’s. They play in a conference that does not prepare them for the NFL.
Losing teams keep losing because they draft with desperation and not with a plan
