NFL Free Agency: Browns to Release G Eric Steinbach
March 14, 2012Box Score: Cavaliers 105, Bucks 115
March 15, 2012NFL Network is reporting that Peyton Hillis’ visit to Kansas City was productive for him and the team. Hillis has reportedly reunited with Brian Daboll for the 2012 season.
The Chiefs then made it official, but no contract terms have been reported yet. Adam Schefter reports that the Chiefs got it done for one year and $3 million, obviously guaranteed.
Back in Cleveland, expect the Ben Tate trade rumors and Trent Richardson draft talk to heat up immensely. Between the Hillis signing and the Eric Steinbach release, the Browns’ running game took an immense hit, crushing dreams that it could ever return to 2010 form.

Hmm…I always thought of it as a reference to when something good has reached its “nadir” and it starts going downhill and the sign of it is something so dumb and insane that it can only mean that you jumped the shark.
Which is a reference to a scene in Happy Days. A show that I am probably the only jerk on the boards old enough to remember.
Proof: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jumping_the_shark
I bet they were NEVER serious about signing him. Which is so dumb and foolish. All this “not my guy” b.s. in the NFL is turning it into garbage.
“it is unwise to create more holes when you are not filling the ones you have.”
-Confucius’ thoughts on dating
Yes exactly, when a TV show has but it’s peak and does something ridiculous or uses a recycled premise to save itself.
Happy Days is the spawn of the reference from when Fonzy was going to “jump the shark”.
My question is how does my comment on Cribbs glory days of a return man/current days of being a worthless receiver and Hillis being a backup on other teams being worthy of this reference?
You said you’d trade Joe Thomas. That is the most ridiculous idea I’ve heard.
Unless it is for Aaron Rogers, or an equally stupid trade, the very idea is insane.
Cool story bro
So what is the running game going to be? Tate from Houston? I hope so, because I don’t think I could take Trent Richardson. He just had knee surgery.
Drafting someone at a position with a very short shelf life at #4 is way more risky than many other things the Browns could be pursuing. But who knows what the heck the plan is right now.
You would trade Joe Thomas for two starters in a heartbeat??
It’s too bad. Not only for us, but also for Hillis. There is NO way that he will get the same fan support in C as he got here. Bad move Hillis. How did that “hometown discount” work out for you. He just wanted out
C = KC
I just heard on 92.3 that the Washington sanctions could void the trade with the Rams to get the #2 pick. Any truth?
Got ya, trading Joe Thomas for two NFL 1st team players is insane.
We will just let this one go as we have now completely gone off topic.
Thread hijacking!!! We did it. Sorry Craig.
😉
If someone offered you Arian Foster and Calvin Johnsn for Joe Thomas you wouldn’t?
Obviously this discussion is happening in a bubble as it would not happen. I’m just highlighting the point that there is not one player on a 4 win team that is “untouchable”.
This was brought up a few times on other blogs.
The thought being that Washington could lose draft picks for their role in the “bounty programs”.
I wouldn’t bet on this as I’m pretty sure the trade was completed already this past Tuesday without the league putting a hold on it.
just glad it’s not cinci or pitt.
i’d gladly take him for 1yr/$3mil.
i don’t think he’d sign for that amount.
Think of it as a high level training camp.
Yo dawg, i heard you liked rebuilding while you rebuild! So we put some rebuilding in your rebuild so you can rebuild while you rebuild!
/Got nothing
//Can we please just win?
This is what they did a year ago nice to see they are being consistent. They better trade down from #4 because they’ll need more picks to fill the holes they create.
No truth to it. It was a fake tweet that got passed around as if it were true.
Well of course I would do that. But you just said two starters thus simply implying two starters.
This is the 2nd dumbest thing I’ve seen from the Browns do in my lifeime (Bernie is 1st). 1 yr. $3 million? UN-BE-LIEVABLE. A sad day for the franchise. I’ve never seen a team get so much worse during a single off-season.
he’s now the albino nightmare
You know as opposed to two all pros or a stud WR
Heckert and Holmgren are being paid off by Goodell to drive fan interest in Cleveland so low that the NFL can move the team to Los Angeles.
Like I said…in a bubble. 😉
So let me get this straight: before tonight, the consensus was that Hillis was likely not worth a whole lot of money and/or effort because of how he flaked out on this team. So the team basically follows through and lets him leave — and now it’s the team that’s at fault?
Is it possible to at least get a little intellectual consistency, people? Damn …
If Tate is the answer, and they actually do what it takes to sign him, I’ll be more than happy with this. Right now, though, I ain’t happy with this.
KC got him cheap so he indeed wasn’t worth alot of money. I wanted him back because the Browns wouldn’t have a RB if he left. I was also worried he’d go within the division. Well half of that was alleviated but now they don’t have a RB. That’s one more hole to fill. They are creating more holes then they are filling which is what amazes me.
Hillis should complement a healthy Jamaal Charles perfectly. Thunder and lightning in KC.
“it is what it is”…..Ori smells blood in the water.
Not only that, but 6 months ago, many were screaming for the Browns to cut ties with the guy. Now?
Not a big deal to me. He had one good year behind a good line. Ruben Droughns ran for 1200+ yards and no one wet their pants when he left. The guy wants to go measure his own personal worth elsewhere for a year, I don’t want that guy on my TEAM.
I agree…really don’t care about a fumble-prone one trick pony who’d rather be Jason Bourne than a pro bowler

Ditto. I don’t know how good of a fit Hillis is for the west coast offense, but it was nice to have a guy who could punch the ball in on the goal line. I fully expect Hardesty to get injured again, so I don’t think we can count him as one of our potential RBs.

Not true! I think the Lake Erie Monsters might have the Indians beat out on that one.
this “Plan” that everyone keeps referring to better work cuz all of our eggs are in this basket
Hey everyone, this Browns fan is a Mr. Cranky Pants!… Let it go dude
a new year, a new “hole”
Oh yes, I do.
agreed 100%, dont know what news over the last few weeks pointed to Hillis returning
That may be the most insane comment I’ve ever read! I can’t believe I’m saying this but I agree with oribiasi you not only jumped the shark but you just ordered the biggest order of “pancake” in C-town! Nice knowing ya buddy!
Damn reply fail.
Close but no cigar! 😉
One good year….I’d argue he had 6-7 good games, fell off from there and never returned.
Like I said before; there was a reason he was 3rd back in Alabama and Denver.
