Someone finally cooled off the Tribe offense. That man was Tyson Ross, who pitched 6 2/3 innings, allowing just 1 run and 4 hits, as the A’s avoided the sweep with the 5-1 victory. Justin Masterson did not look sharp for the third straight outing, letting in four runs and walking six in five innings. The Indians got their lone run in the first on a RBI double from Travis Hafner. Seth Smith hit the go-ahead two-run homer in the fourth, and Cliff Pennington added two runs batted in as well. The Tribe finishes their nine-game roadtrip through Kansas City, Seattle, and Oakland at 7-2 and remain one game behind Detroit in the AL Central at 8-6. They head home to face the Royals on Tuesday night with Derek Lowe facing Jonathan Sanchez.

Who would have thought….having Cunningham, Lopez, and Marson in the same lineup would end up in a loss? Luckily it’s still April and this game didn’t mean much, but Manny better not be going to bat with lineups like this again!!
Welcome to the concept of the getaway day lineup. Last game of not only the series, but the road trip; day game after a night game; won the previous two games of the series – this combination of factors have caused managers for generations to throw out the the B lineup.
I have never been a big fan of the concept either. I understand guys need a day off from time to time, but prefer to stagger it.
Indians lost, a shame. Still, 8-6 overall and just 1 game back of the Tigers. 3way battle for the AL Central.
add Brantely in your “lineup of doom and gloom”.
He and Kotchman are the absolute ugliest pieces of our order…and to make matters worse, they are “everyday” players.

But guys don’t get tired randomly. The same factors that cause one guy to need a day will likely cause someone else to need a day. And if Cabrera is out, and Santana needs a day off, the lineup is going to look weak even if all the other regulars are in anyway.

yes, guys don’t get tired randomly, but if you stagger which days you give them, then they stay fresh.
anyways, I agree w/o Asdrubel and Santana our lineup is in tough shape.
Im with you on that one, Manny seems to give days off all at once. I knew that was a mail in game yesterday when I saw Cunningham, Marson and Lopez all in the lineup.
Then you’re playing the guessing game about which guys might get tired next, and sitting your better player when he’s perfectly fine. I’m not sure I like that strategy any better.
And what about a little deeper game theory here? The two times that Acta did put in the B lineup, he had Marson replacing Santana, a huge blow to the lineup. Maybe they think that the odds of winning without Santana are so low, that you might as well punt completely and get everyone ready for the next day.
