Classic pitching dual until the ninth inning. Hernandez mowed down the Indians, striking out 12. The Indians finally broke through against Brandon League. Tomlin pitched well, using the biggest part of the park to get a few outs. He was saved in the second by some great defense by Kotchman and Donald. Perez closed the door shut on Tomlin’s win.

With the way Felix was celebrating in the 8th, I’m glad he lost. Dude…it’s April don’t jump around like you won the world series. Maybe Tomlin didn’t pitch as well, but I was glad he had a good quality start! Bats didn’t show up for most of the game, but they won. Good enough for me!
I didn’t get to see/hear the game, but Tomlin’s line looks mighty impressive- even against the lowly Mariners.
Hafner continues to impress. Never knew that the PR gets the run rather than the guy who actually got on base.
Eh, I hear ya, but the guy got out of a bases loaded jam in a 1-0 game when he could have easily been pulled earlier in the inning. I don’t necessarily mind the emotion, especially since he’s in Seattle and he knows he won’t be able to celebrate in October.
How in the world did Josh Tomlin strikeout 7? Did the Mariners not realize they were facing Josh Tomlin?
agree with zipper and with neids.
I wanted to drive to Seattle and sweep the leg on “King Felix” when he was bounding off the mound like he got out of the jam in the ALCS…but then I realized it was just my frustration from Kipnis and Choo giving him those strikeouts.
Oh well, all is well that ends well.
I hate the entire concept of Saves and Closers, and therefore the Blown Save is a beautiful stat.
The Mariners are also one of the few teams to have a worse offense than ours.
Whoever the guy is that crosses the plate gets the run.
Not sure this team knows the diff between a homestand and a road trip. Weird.
Also, glad Perez avoided subjecting his manager to more sports radio ranting. Nice to give him a few weeks off before he’s made to look like a moron again.
I actually got to watch most of this one since it was the MLB.tv free game of the day (and I didn’t notice that until the 3rd or 4th inning). Tomlin did look much better, and I think it was because he was mixing up his pitches more. Heard Tom Hamilton say on the radio that Acta and Scott Radinsky told Tomlin that he needed to pitch more offspeed pitches on his first pitch to a hitter as they were sitting on his fastball… looks like it definitely helped.
