Yesterday before the draft even started, Rick and I engaged in a friendly bet. It is so friendly in fact that we never even discussed any kind of payoff. Still it is an interesting one.
The Cleveland Browns will line up against the Washington Redskins in week 15 next season in Cleveland Browns stadium. On December 16th, to be exact. Here’s the bet. When those teams go into the game, who will be favored in Vegas? I say the Browns will be and Rick is betting that the RG3-led Redskins will be.
Of course, there are a lot of impossible variables like injuries to predict. The bet might be totally nonsensical by the time the game actually shows up. If RG3 is out of the game or Trent Richardson is out, the bet becomes relatively meaningless. The spirit of the bet is more like measuring the Browns and their speed to quality vs. the Redskins because they both attempted to get RG3 from the St. Louis Rams.
I supported the move to go after RG3, but at the same time, there’s no question that the Redskins paid a high price. They also had to engage in a pretty aggressive free agency approach given that they wouldn’t have the benefit of the traded draft picks. The Browns didn’t get RG3, but they will give their new QB the benefit of Trent Richardson and presumably either a wide receiver or an offensive lineman as of the end of tonight.
So that’s what we were betting on. Where do you come out on it?
