Indians 2, Mariners 1: The Griticism of Clutch: Where Hannahan Wins One for the Dipper
April 20, 2012Poll Results: What are the Browns chances week by week for 2012?
April 20, 2012ESPN draftink Mel Kiper says that the ideal Cleveland Browns draft will start if the team selects Alabama running back Trent Richardson with the fourth-overall pick.
In effort to establish what each team needs to do in order to garner an “A” grade after the first three rounds, Kiper feels that the most efficient use of the team’s first four picks should go as such:
Rd 1 (4) RB Trent Richardson, Alabama
Rd 1 (22) T/G Cordy Glenn, Georgia
Rd 2 (37) QB Brandon Weeden, Oklahoma St.
Rd 3 (67) CB Dwight Bentley, Louisiana-Lafayette
Kiper adds that Richardon is a “home run pick” due to his high floor and that injuries cannot scare the Browns away from the running back position with a player of his skill level. Glenn is dubbed as a “versatile” player who can be moved to the right side; a dominant run-blocker, his addition coupled with Cleveland’s existing offensive line — as well as Richardson — would mean immense improvement in the Browns’ running game.
The glaring omission is obviously the selection of a player to help bolster the passing (receiving) attack. If the Browns opt to take a right tackle with the 22nd-overall pick, things could get very interesting with regard to receiving options to play alongside last year’s second-round pick Greg Little.

What the Browns will probably do:
1a RB Trich (becuase we need offense now)
1b WR K. Wright (because Heckert likes small/quick recievers – similar to Maclin)
2a DB or LB (surprise defensive pick)
3 RT Schwartz or Stephenson (need pick, decent value)
After that i assume we’ll take the top player on our board at any position.
What I’d like to see us do:
1a CB Claiborne (because he’s the BPA and should have 10-12 good years)
1b OT Martin (a good RT will help all aspects of the offense)
2a RB D. Martin (the next Ray Rice)
2b WR Sanu (trade up from 3rd w. Phili for our two fifths & 7th)
4a G B. Brooks (we badly need G competition/depth)
4b OLB Spence/Kaddu/Acho (a decent 4-3 WOLB is likely to be available here)
Exactly… and this is precisely why I keep trying to correct people who thought that Greg Little had a great rookie year. His YAC numbers were embarrassing for a guy who supposedly has really good athleticism and speed. He has a long way to go before being considered “good”.
I think Adrian Peterson did as well if I remember correctly. It was either the combine or individual workouts, something. Regardless I smell what your cookin’ but I’ve cooled on my injury worries with him, for the most part.
They were all buzzed on Kool Aid I agree with you!
also, even if it had been YAC, I would have not counted it as much. Hill’s YAC would all be from being deep and no DB being deeper. Blackmon received shorter route passes and had to make something from them. It’s why I’m down on K-Wright too.
a little cleanup. when Dr.Andrews says it’s the most minor surgery that can be done, then I’m not going to worry much.
I agree. I think he did have a good rookie year because to do anything in our offense that we put out last year is somewhat impressive.
But, he dropped too many passes, didn’t pick up enough YAC (some of that is on Colt too), was not a good run-blocker (minor but counts), and was a sloppy route-runner
people complain about 3rd&9 when we throw a 5yd pass, but NE/GB do that all the time and their WRs bust their humps to get to the 1st down marker.
Montana’s kids aren’t far behind
would have made a nice 3rd act to the play. ah well.
apparently any WR that is tall and fast can go to GaTech and be compared to Calvin Johnson as a NFL prospect no matter what they actually did in college or the fact that a different offense is run there now. pretty good sales pitch for Paul Johnson on the recruiting trail.
switch the pick of weeden to a WR we might really want/need, than that would be an okay move. Or we could be a great WR instead of Martin and pickup Jenkins CB at our 2nd round pick if he is still there.
Good point… if I was Paul Johnson I would just keep telling wideouts “Hey, I will get you into the 1st round… check the track record.” For the record, I don’t think Stephen Hill is Calvin Johnson… nobody is. He’s the best receiver in the NFL (in my opinion). But do I think he can be as good or better than a lot of other WRs taken in the 1st round of previous NFL drafts? Sure. Once upon a time Charles Rogers was a sure thing and was the 2nd pick in the draft. Right now I think he’s down at Burger King pitching a new reality TV show to TLC (formerly known as The Learning Channel).
Glenn won’t drop to the Browns but he is the 3rd best O lineman in the draft. I would jump all over him if there.
Yeah, spread offense WR’s prove so much more when the balls thrown 200 times in their direction. I was under the impression that the Browns needed a true deep threat. 6 foot 1 WR’s that run a 4.5 40 aren’t really considered deep threats in the pro’s. I would have felt a lot better about him if the Browns had actually worked him out instead of punters so maybe they agree with your opinion but I don’t think we really need another Greg Little unless we’re looking for the most mediocre to below receiving core in the NFL.
Nothing will make Texas Chainsaw Massaquoi look any better.
Floyd, Little and Norwood….and keep Cribbs on stand by for end arounds which result in him throwing the ball and gimmicks only.
of course Rogers may have only busted due to drugs and injuries
who called Blackmon a deep threat?
i’m on board with Sanu later anyway. I like Blackmon alot, but Richardson+Sanu could be fun.
So, 6 foot 2 and a 4.65 40 is a deep threat? Sanu is a posession guy. We already got that receiver. We need one that teams have to game plan for and if Hill can learn to run a route correctly, he’s the only guy other than floyd that’s like that. Not to mention we already know he’s a good downfield blocker.
That was just one example, of course… you could also pull Peter Warrick, David Terrell, Braylon Edwards, Ted Ginn Jr, etc out of a hat.
This would be the biggest waste of an extra pick of all time.
Kiper doesn’t know anything. Really Weeden? A guy who’s not going to start a game in the NFL until he’s over 30 years old.
Richardson and Floyd would be a dream draft. But very unlikely…
loved greg childs & broyles before injuries – would love to get one of them in 5th or 6th rounds
I agree. We need to get the ball in the end zone and not just field goal position
We need a WR in the first 2 rounds
He won;t go beyond #6. I don’t care for Wright. Weedon is not what we need. NO QB this year. Playmakers is what we need
No nostalgia. We need playmakers
WR Marvin McNutt a guy the browns showed some interest in looks like he could be a stud and maybe available in the 4th. Browns have got to get receiver help.
We do need a wide receiver, but we need a quarterback too 🙂
AS A BROWNS FAN LIVING IN RALEIGH NC. HOW BOUT WAITING FOR PROVEN WINNER IN LATER ROUNDS VIA RUSSEL WILSON?
Colt Mccoy isn’t that bad and could be a lot better if he had a solid running game and a receiver who could catch
