NFL Draft: McShay and Kiper Peg Browns with Richardson, Weeden

Cleveland Browns fans who didn’t approve of some of the selections in the recent NFL.com seven-round mock draft can now set their sites on the version compiled by ESPN’s Todd McShay.

In his latest endeavor, McShay has the Browns selecting the following 13 players:

1 (4) Trent Richardson, RB, Alabama
1 (22) C0rdy Glenn, OT, Georgia
2 (37) Brandon Weeden, QB, Oklahoma State
3 (67) Ty Hilton, WR, FIU
4 (100) Nigel Bradham, OLB, Florida State
4 (118) Sean Prater, CB, Iowa
5 (139) Jake Bequette, DE, Arkansas
5 (160) Dajohn Harris, DT, USC
6 (204) Coryell Judie, Texas A&M
6 (205) Antoine McClain, G, Clemson
7 (245) Markus Kuhn, DT, NC State
7 (247) Bradie Ewing, FB, Wisconsin

McShay’s partner in NFL Draft crime Mel Kiper Jr. went with his final one-round edition, penning the Browns in with Richardson at No. 4 (citing instant success) and Weeden at No. 22, providing a bit of a corroboration between the two analysts. “If you don’t get Weeden here, you risk losing him,” said Kiper on the Browns potentially not waiting until the second round.

Hey! Come to our draft party!

but actually watching shows he only has average arm strength, poor mechanics, and in a 1read offense it’s tough to know if he can throw to the spot when he has to make multiple reads (alot more to process).

agree that none of us know until they get to teh NFL.  Sanchez is a poor example because even his own college coach came out and said he wasn’t ready to make that jump.

False. Anderson is half the athlete tom brady is.

  • Hermie13

Dont want Tannehill, but he is better/more athletic than Anderson. Not a good comp.

Using a first round pick on a soon to be 29 year old QB is a waste – that means we passed on Julio Jones and the reward was a guy who, by the time the Browns could theoretically build around him and become good, say in 3 years maybe, will be 32. That just wastes a pick.

I mean if you want a already older QB why not sign someone like Jason Campbell, who already has started in the NFL and been decent. Isn’t the point of ‘building through the draft’ to get young talent?

SI.com has a rumor that Osi Umenyiora could be available for a third round pick.  If so the Browns should be calling the Giants.

  • Steve-o

Not that it matters much, but a seventh round pick is missing. I’d be perfectly happy if none of those early picks are correct.

Heckert mentioned that he and his scouts sometimes laugh about how much the talking heads miss on players, over-rating them by as much as three rounds. I’m guessing Glenn and Weeden are not in Heckert’s 18 first round graded players.

I’m looking for one of those early picks to be a surprise defensive player. And some trades. And a pick or two that no one ever considered. Should be fun to watch.

  • Henry Brown

Upshaw is dropping because he’s not big enough for 4-3 DE and not fast enough for 3-4 OLB.

  • Henry Brown

Yeah I think its really not that big of a deal if its not in the first round. Not sure why so many people have to be such drama queens about drafting QBs. Make the pick, if it doesn’t work out, make another.

  • Henry Brown

Good lord, the Pats are so full of themselves. They’re good because their 6th round QB pick turned into a Hall of Fame lock. Yes I know they went 11-5 one year without Brady, playing a super weak AFC East and still having a good defense. That D is long gone. Without Brady now they’re the Colts.

  • mgbode

i’ll give them a 4th rounder and they’ll like it!

(it wouldn’t be draft day without the obligitory Osi rumor)
