While We’re Waiting… Drafting Kevin Mack, looking at Jonathan Martin and miserable Tribe drafts
April 16, 2012Tribe Weekend Wrapup: The Offense is Alive
April 16, 2012Are you still having fun yet? I am. Peter King has some juicy bits about the draft in his MMQ column today. First of all, he doesn’t think there will be much action on the third pick because people won’t fall enough in love with anyone not named Luck or Griffin to make a big offer. That leads to Matt Kalil probably heading to Minnesota as most people have suspected from the beginning. That leaves the Browns.
I heard different things over the weekend from people I trust. GM Tom Heckert loves Blackmon and that would be his pick; president Mike Holmgren is still trying to decide with finality if Tannehill is the franchise quarterback worth taking here. The safest pick? Richardson, at a need position, even though receiver is a bigger need.
Joe Lull of 92.3 The Fan is still the (only?) engineer for the Tannehill express, so this probably makes him happy that the man at the top of the Browns pyramid is still even contemplating Tannehill. Regardless of whether you like Tannehill or not, there’s no denying that his rise has been hype-based and meteoric over the last few months. Oh yeah, and he hasn’t done anything new on a football field in that time unless you count a scripted pro day workout.
He didn’t even knock over a Browns position coach. Enjoy the ride people!

I love Brandon Brooks. I would be very happy if we picked him in the 3rd.
I don’t think you understand how bad some of the OLs in the NFL have been lately. We don’t have a RT, but outside of that, the other 4 could very well land starting spots.
The Bills, Bears, Dolphins, etc. have had terrible OLs lately. Much, much worse than ours.
We are middle of the pack with some youngsters, which gives me hope that if we solve the RT slot that we can improve to nearer the top.
It’s also possible that Pinkston/Lauvao don’t improve and we get stuck where we are or fall back, but I’m hoping that is not the case.
well, Pitt’s in cap-hell and they are just trying to plug the dam.
Baltimore is avoiding it so far but had to lose Grubbs once he rose in pay to the point past where they could pay him.
with which players at which contracts? the WRs got ridiculous deals IMO. none of the RBs were great (i like the rookies better). Winston wasn’t healthy (so a leap of faith a bit on him).
there were a few players out there I liked and would have wanted to pursue, but overall you HAVE to draft well to field a competitive team.
“Bust rate for short WRs (under 6’2″) is currently 100% for top 10 picks since 2000. Blackmon is barely 6’1″.”
By making this connection you are implying that Blackmon will be a bust. You are saying that because he is 6’1” even if he is very talented, etc., he isnt worth a top-10 pick. Not because he isnt good, but because he is one inch too short. Thats what you said, not putting words into your mouth.

Also, if he becomes a pro bowl receiver, thats not value just because he is short and short WRs are available later?? That makes no sense.

Just because you can find other short WRs, and Blackmon isnt that short, but just because you can find them later does not mean they will be as good as Blackmon. Value isnt all about size, its about ability. If a guy is pro bowl caliber, regardless of height, he is a top-10 pick. I dont care if another 6’1” guy can be had later.
Laughable scenario
richardson at 4 wr at 22 ot at 37 then get some defence and of linemen then martin for back up at quarterback but dont draft down again we fans are getting fed up with the enept front office and the buddy systems.
