Asdrubal Cabrera, Carlos Santana Out For Game 2 Against White Sox

Well, Manny Acta said the Indians would have to see how both Asdrubal Cabrera and Carlos Santana were doing when the team got to the park on Saturday, and it looks like both will not be able to go in the second game of the series. Both young stars were removed from Friday’s game as a “precaution” and they’re going to be held out again as the Indians try to avoid further injury which could derail what appears to be a contending season.

So Acta will put out an significantly inferior lineup against the dominating Jake Peavy on Saturday. Both Cabrera and Santana are down, and Travis Hafner was already out, staying back in Cleveland to have his sore right knee treated. The little bit of good news is the return of Jack Hannahan, who the Tribe desperately needed on the left side of the infield. Jose Lopez will DH and hit cleanup in this murderers’ row, and he’ll be protected by Casey Kotchman and Johnny Damon. Juan Diaz, who was promoted yesterday from Akron, will play short in place of Asdrubal and bat 8th, while Laser Lou will fill in for Santana and bat 9th.

Forget about winning this game, I’d be happy if we can avoid a no-hitter. This lineup is a joke today…

Why didn’t Brantley play last night? Just a night off?

Boy, it sure feels like the wheels fell off in a hurry. If those 3 are out for any length of time, this can get ugly in a hurry. Luckily we have Johnny Damon and Casey Kotchman to lead us in our time of need.

One thing I really like about our FO is how they are always prepared with a good backup plan. Absolutely genius promoting a ss directly from AA to the majors. What is possibly worse is that he is only the 8th worst hitter in the lineup.

at least we just swept the Tigers.  this could have happened during that series

Better yet he was batting .232 at AA. Wonder what makes them think he would do well in the majors?? But really there second loss in a row falls on Acta. In both games we had a chance to win. But ALWAYS makes bad pitching decisions.

I agree completely. It’s almost as if Acta thinks he is smarter than conventional baseball wisdom. He brings in a closer in a tie game and leaves a starter in when he clearly doesn’t have it that day. Maybe he thought he was at a Browns Bears game where a td can get you 7 “runs.”

And to clarify I am not saying he should have pulled a seasoned veteran like Lowe today. I am speaking in generalities about Acta’s overall decision making.

  • akzipper

It’s clear from the start of the game if a pitcher has it, or he doesn’t. I’ve always liked Acta, but he has this though process of “Maybe he’ll figure it out” which never happens.  You got the lead and Lowe was pitching bad, take him out. Then even after we gave up the lead, came back to within 1, and he put in Joe Smith who gave up 4 more. Every game is important! If a reliever gives up 2 hits right off the bat, with 0 outs. TAKE HIM OUT!

    ??

plenty of pitchers have had a rough inning or two to start and been able to straighten things out as the game progressed.

also, there is something to be said for saving the bullpen.  if every time a pitcher gave up a couple of runs early, you yanked him, the bullpen would be in shambles.

Ok, just today we had a 4-4 game…keep Ubaldo in and he gives up the game 7-4. Save the bullpen for when we’re in last place!!!!
