Cleveland Indians catcher Carlos Santana is headed to the MLB’s new 7-day concussion disabled list. Santana took a foul ball off his mask in Friday night’s loss to the White Sox and left the game in the 8th inning, complaining of dizziness. Manager Manny Acta said he was removed as a precaution and that he would be re-evaluated on Saturday.
When the club got to US Cellular Field on Saturday, triple-A catcher Luke Carlin had a locker set up and Santana’s name was not on the lineup sheet, according to Jordan Bastian. Matt Underwood said that Santana was headed to the 7-day DL and Acta, speaking with the press before the game, said that’s where he’ll end up.
Along with Santana, shortstop Asdrubal Cabrera also left Friday night’s game with a tight hamstring. At this point it does not appear Cabrera will need a trip to the DL and will continue to be day-to-day, almost certainly missing the rest of the White Sox series this weekend.
