Fun with Numbers

Because it has been too long, it’s time for more fun with numbers.

Let’s start with the Indians-

10 – 8: Record in day games this year. I would have sworn it was a lot worse than this. Seems like every time they play an afternoon tilt they lose. Apparently not. Last season they were 21-32 in afternoon games.

188: Number of runs scored and allowed by the Indians this year before first pitch today. How are they seven games over .500? Look no further than a 9-2 record in one run games.

190: Walks by Indians hitters this season. Leads the Majors.

166: Walks given up by Cleveland pitchers. Fourth most in the Majors. The moral of the story is don’t give up base-runners.

1.64: Strikeouts/Base on Balls by Indian pitchers. Dead last. To be expected with the ground ball staff we have, though that number could improve. Last year that number was 2.21.

23: Consecutive appearances by Vinnie Pestano with at least one strikeout.

0 – 4: Masterson’s record against Detroit lifetime.

6.10: Justin Verlander’s ERA in Cleveland. So there is hope.

.334: Career batting average by Miguel Cabrera against the Indians. 100 hits, 18 home runs, 59 RBI.

Some new Browns jersey numbers-

3- Brandon Weeden

26- Trevin Wade

33- Trent Richardson

47- Brad Smelley

50- James-Michael Johnson

59- Emmanuel Acho

60- Ryan Miller

61- Matt Cleveland

63- Jake Anderson

68- J.B. Shugarts

72- Mitchell Schwartz

79- Billy Winn

80- Travis Benjamin

88- Josh Cooper

92- Frostee Rucker

93- John Hughes

For the Cavaliers, only one number is really inportant-

6: Days until the draft lottery.

Day games – I think it seems worse because alot of those losses were in “getaway” games where Acta fields a AAA roster.

“9-2 record in one run games” – not a good sign unfortunately.

4th most BBs given up, last in SOs gotten.  yet, ERA under 4.00 overall.  either the ERA should regress or those ratios will straighten out.  let’s hope for the latter.

I see your Miggy stats and submit the Prince stats:   0.000BA, 8LOB

#61 Matt Cleveland – how did we not give him #64.  Fail.

1.64 is NOT the Indians Strikeout per 9 number, it is rather their strikeout per walk number. The Indians K/9 number is 6.17, 1.64 would be historically bad.

You mean the Browns haven’t retired Derek Anderson’s #3 jersey yet?

  • Natedawg86

How about we give him a number in the teens, like 14!!!!!!!!

  • mgbode

nice thought.  i was just thinking of the missed photo opportunity on the sidelines of preseason games.

I assume there’s a waiting period like with getting nominated for the Hall of Fame.

I thought they allowed Weeden to have it since he trumped Derek Anderson in ‘seniority’
