NFL Report: Heckert says Phil Taylor will play THIS season

At a Browns Backers event in Akron, General Manager Tom Heckert said he is “100% positive” that DT Phil Taylor will play this season-

“One hundred percent — I don’t think there’s any question about that,” Heckert said when asked about Taylor playing in 2012. “Once it’s healed, it’s healed. He should start lifting in four months.”

Jeff Schudel of the News-Herald reports the timeline would put Taylor back on the field by late October or early November.

I’d love to see him back…in 4 months though…I’d say more like 6-8 to be safe.

agree.  if you can lift in 4mo, then 6 is the earliest to come back.  works perfectly in the PUP category that way too.

Big Johnny Hughes is gonna get some major reps.

He also clearly said Weeden is the guy.   Hopefully now we can stop having posts about a QB controversy and McCoy.

Good call.  I just heard the clip again this morning and he said that he expects Weeden to win the QB “contest,” which is the nice way of saying “He IS OUR STARTER OF COURSE.”

And that puts his return somewhere in October.  I’d be fine with that.

Sure thing Tom. Because everything else you say is true, it stands to reason this would be as well.

Read between the lines…he says “he doesn’t think” which means in 5 months when it’s not happening he has room to maneuver, if anyone remembers these comments at all.

He just had surgery 5 days ago.  If it really does take 6 months, that puts us at November 17th for a return date.  That means he misses 9 games, and is back for the Dallas game on 11/18.  That is probably the BEST we could hope for.

sounds reasonable.  and, I have no problems with it as long as we make sure he’s fully recovered before he hits the field.

  • BenRM

That’d be awesome if he is ready…but I hope they don’t rush a young guy with a great future back before he’s physically ready.

I guess we just need him back by February. Amirite?

Silly Tommy H… don’t you know that you can’t predict anything when it comes to the health of Cleveland Browns?  I’m just sitting back waiting for the next round of staph infections to hit.

Jeez, play it safe.  Legs and chest for DT are most important.  Make sure he is ready!

Right about the time someone else is breaing down or getting hurt. Works for me.

What are the roster implications with the PUP list? I assume his spot is filled with someone else until he returns and then someone is cut?
