Report: Jabar Gaffney and Jacoby Jones both cut today

The Browns will still be $9 million dollars under the cap after signing their draftees. Today, a couple of wide receivers hit the market when the Washington Redskins cut Jabar Gaffney, and the Houston Texans parted ways with Jacoby Jones.

John McClain reports that the Texans were unable to find a trade partner for Jones (27), who caught 31 passes for 512 yards and two scores last season.

The Redskins released Jabar Gaffney (31), who had a career bests last year in receptions (68) yards (947) and touchdowns (5).

what’s sort of funny is that Washington and Houston play almost the exact same offense and their roles in it were also the same.

  • Team Brady

Jabar might be an interesting pick-up.  Should cost too much…

  • akzipper

You know what, these would be two good receivers. Too bad we drafted so many wide outs, they probably wouldn’t get much playing time. I’m sure if they were cut from the Rams or Eagles practice squad Heckert and Shurmur would be all over it. Oh well…they’ll realize week 1 what a BIG mistake they made.

    I’d like either, please.

Browns FO:  Get one of these players.

  • Nathan Lyons

Wasn’t Gaffney’s inability to hold on to the ball in a playoff game one year the reason that Belichek took a “chance” on signing Moss the next season?

  • JeBron Lames

Is there any realistic possibility that they sign either of these two? I would like either of them, but I have a bad feeling the Browns won’t do anything to address the receiving corp. especially in free agency…

  • The_Real_Shamrock

New England signed two WRs in free agency I do believe so that tells you what they thought of Gaffney.  If I had to choose between the two I’d lean towards Jacoby Jones.  Younger and had some nice games as a punt returner for Houston.

  • Stevekess26

No on both please.  Both career underachievers.  I’d rather roll with rod windsor.

  • saggy

it could be Jerry Rice and the Browns wouldn’t take a sniff.

  • Mark

Jacob Jones is a 27 year old receiver who has a very good QB throwing to him and an amazing WR opposite of him and he still couldn’t cut it? That’s a sure fire sign that he is no good.

    Nope. No thank you. Pass.

  • dan

I agree. Browns should wait until next year, then draft a receiver who can be developed into a career underachiever.

  • Guest

But aren’t both better than amything thats on the browns right now?

  • Mark

    No.

  • Steve

This right here. Not only are they not going to really add anything to this team, but whats the point? I can see if you can get a wide receiver who would really make a difference, but theres no point adding crappy receivers to 6 win teams.

  • Emerald Blade

I for one would like the Browns to sign Jacoby Jones.  I met him before the Hou/Cle game some 4 years ago, class act.  He would likely make the team as a slot reciever/punt returner (Josh Cribbs being a Kickoff Returner/wide out)

  • Hypno_Toad

    Wait until next year….

hmmm there’s a joke in there somewhere.

  • 5KMD

I wouldn’t want Jerry right now either.

  • Jaker

Gaffney quietly had a really good year for DC. Jones has always been a little overrated for my taste, mostly because of his name always coming up in fantasy football as a “sleeper”. I’d be ok with either of them as our #2 wr, but would they be that much of an immediate upgrade of MoMass? If not, then I’ll stay.

  • Jaker

but what about 4 win teams?…

  • http://twitter.com/adbrowning Aaron Browning

    Definitely Not.

  • http://twitter.com/adbrowning Aaron Browning

Why would we want either of these guys, except for maybe bottom of the roster depth?

  • Saurabhgup

    is Dennis Nortcut available?

  • Saurabhgup

Luckily in Clev he would not have either so may succeed.

  • Saurabhgup

right.  cuz the drops Greg Little had are really promising, right?

  • mgbode

yeah, he just goes by the name Jacoby Jones now

  • mgbode

it would be better if it was Jacoby making those drops?

  • Matchue

Is it bad that I forgot that Mohammed Massaquoi was on our team?
