First up, Brendan Bowers at Stepien Rules talks about Michael Kidd-Gilchrist recently working out in Beachwood, “If he was able to end up staying, however, that would be pretty important for Cavs fans though. Joe asked me last night off the air who I think MKG compares to in the NBA, and I told him I didn’t know. I still can’t really think of a specific player that jumps out in my mind either to be honest. But what I do know, after talking through the potential and upside of a number of players on air last night, is that MKG is the most NBA-ready wing there is in the Draft right now. ” [Stepien Rules]
Joe Posnanski went long form about the recently tatooed Josh Beckett and his love for the links, “Then, last week it seems that Josh Beckett skipped a start because of tightness and decided the next day that that he was still OK to play some golf. Yes, golf and baseball have not mixed well through the years. Managers have banned it. Fans have griped about it. And this looked bad. The formula, at least from the outsiders view, is that if Beckett was hurt bad enough to miss a start, golf might have been a bad idea. And if Beckett was well enough to play golf, he might have taken the ball and pitched, especially since the Red Sox are off to this terrible start.” [Joe Blog]
The City of Columbus wants an NBA franchise. As a Cavalier fan and Columbus resident, this makes me uneasy. Eleven Warriors has some thoughts on the feasibility of such a scenario, “For the first half of the team’s existence, the Blue Jackets finished in the upper half of NHL attendance. However, the success, or rather lack thereof, has dropped the CBJ into the bottom quadrant over the past four seasons. Because of diminishing attendance due to making the playoffs only once in 11 years and an unfavorable lease through the arena’s ownership, the franchise was in danger of leaving. However, last September Franklin County rescued the team by buying the arena and reaching a deal to keep the club in Columbus. The city is hoping to attract an NBA team as a second tenant to better finance the acquisition.” [Eleven Warriors]
Former Buckeye and current Pittsburgh Steeler Mike Adams recently signed his contract with a $1 million signing bonus. ESPN’s AFC North Blog has some additional information on what Adams is doing to recover from his positive drug test at the combine, “When Steelers offensive tackle Mike Adams signed his contract Wednesday, the second-round pick received a $1.01 million signing bonus. There had been speculation that Adams would defer a signing bonus to show he could remain drug-free. Adams reportedly tested positive for marijuana at the NFL combine in February.” [ESPN AFC North Blog]
Carlos Boozer always keeps things interesting. After the Bulls were dismissed in the first round, he had some baffling comments about the team’s success this season, “By every popular metric, the Chicago Bulls had a disappointing season. Despite earning the East’s top record and a top seed, injuries to Derrick Rose, Joakim Noah and others foiled their dreams of a championship. While it might have been a case of bad luck rather than some structural defect in the squad, there’s a reason that every Bulls fan I know (including our own Kelly Dwyer) feels a little worse about the NBA postseason today. The team had high expectations, and they didn’t meet them. Don’t tell that to Carlos Boozer, though, because he’s feeling really great.” [Ball Don’t Lie]
