NBA Draft Rumors: Boston Wants Harrison Barnes

During an appearance on Thursday evening, long-time Boston sports columnist Bob Ryan stated that the Celtics would like to trade up in the upcoming NBA Draft with aspirations of landing small forward Harrison Barnes.

Barnes, linked to the Cavaliers and their fourth-overall pick, is largely expected to be gone by the seventh selection when the Golden State Warriors are on the clock. The 6-foot-8-inch swingman had a largely disappointing sophomore season, but has seen his name amongst the top players to be taken come June 28th.

The Celtics presently own the 21st- and 22nd-overall selections in the draft and are expected to address the wing as well as the center position having been forced to give playing time to Ryan Hollins late in the 2011-12 season. The Charlotte Bobcats have long been rumored to be looking to move the second-overall selection, but are reportedly floating a heavy asking price.

and I want Anthony Davis, MKG, and Beal to all be drafted by the Cavaliers.

    neither is going to happen.

    Your such a downer!

and who in the top 6 would trade their spot for 21 and 22? Even if they threw in Rondo, not sure why those teams would do that.

And from Boston’s pespective, they have a roster blow up imminet so not sure it wouldn’t be better to amass more first rounders, not less, in a deep draft.

You’re saying that if you were Portland and you had the 6 and 11 you wouldn’t trade the 6 for Rondo, 21, and 22?  I’m pretty sure they would do that in a heartbeat.  Rondo is a top 5 PG in this league.

    What he said…..

  • porckchopexpress

He’s also a top five head case and its impossible to guage how he’d react to such a trade, Not to mention you’d lose the veteran leadership and coach that help keep him in line.

I’m not saying its a bad move but I’d need a long conversation with Rondo beforehand

  • saggy

Rondo just went toe-to-toe with LeBron, and if the rest of the Celtics weren’t geriatric, they would have won that series.  Rondo is legit.   If we didn’t have Kyrie I’d have to consider it, at least.

Not to put words in Harv’s mouth but I don’t think he is hating on Rondo, hes simply saying Boston doesnt have a realistic package to move up to take Barnes.  Its a mute point anyway, Rondo is not going anywhere

  • tarheeltatman

The Bobcats need multiple first round picks….so an even trade for the #2 pick for the two Celtic picks wouldn’t be unfathomable.  As a Celtics fan, and obvious Tar Heel fan, though, I’m not sure Barnes is worthy of the #2 pick judging from his 2 years at UNC. Then again, Ainge has been known to see potential versus record. Similar to a “mad scientist” mentality.  Nothing would shock me at this point with the C’s roster…but rest assured, Rondo is going NOWHERE. Nor should he.

The celtics biggest asset is cap space. I could see them moving up to 10 if they took back Okafor’s contract

  • Harv 21

yes, that’s more what I meant

I’d love to see Boston move up and draft Sullinger. The cost to move up to say 10-15 wouldn’t be too much. All the BS about his back is exactly that…BS. He is like a young Elton Brand and would be a BEAST with Rondo. As a Buckeye fan my only concern was his actual height and he just measured out at a legit 6-9….Sulli for Boston 2012
