According to multiple reports, the Los Angeles Clippers have been given permission to speak with Cleveland Cavaliers assistant general manager David Griffin as means to fill their presently vacant general manager position.
Griffin joins former Cavs GM Jim Paxson and ex-Nuggets GM Kiki Vandeweghe on the short list of potential hires. Vandeweghe, per the New York Daily News, is considered the front-runner for the position created when Neil Olshey left to become the general manager of the Portland Trialblazers.
Getting his start with the Phoenix Suns, Griffin, like current Cavaliers general manager Chris Grant, has worked his way up through the league and is presently Grant’s No. 2. Joining the Cavs upon Grant’s promotion to GM, Griffin works closely with Grant on all basketball and managerial matters, helping oversee the team’s scouting and player personnel departments. He has been very instrumental in the rebuilding process since joining the team in 2010.
