MLB Draft: Indians Gamble on Young Upside in Day Two
June 6, 2012NBA Draft Rumors: Cavs Targeting Harrison Barnes With 4th Pick
June 6, 2012When Pat Shurmur spoke to the media today, he didn’t name a starting quarterback, but he spoke about the desire to name a starter “sooner rather than later.” Will Burge from ESPNCleveland points out on his twitter that Shurmur said it not once but three separate times. That’s good news for those fans that want to do everything possible to avoid quarterback controversy.
Still, as of yesterday, Shurmur’s quotes were doing pretty well not to tip his hand even though pretty much everyone on earth assumes Brandon Weeden will be named.
(On his philosophy of giving Brandon Weeden the offense)- “I think philosophically you install the offense for all of the players and the benefit of the way we are doing it now is you are getting a chance to install it, add to it and then go back and repeat it. I think he is like every other player on offense. There are things he has to learn and the more he hears it, the better he will get.”
It is difficult to say whether Shurmur’s goal is more about making it seem like there is a fair competition so he doesn’t paint himself into a corner. There is always a small chance that once we get to pre-season games Brandon Weeden will look woefully lost or that Colt McCoy will look experienced. Either that, or his philosophy might be that he has to make Weeden earn it a little bit before being anointed.
Either way, I don’t know many in the media or fan base that are wondering who tops the depth chart right now.

anyone catch that celtics game last nite?
was pretty awesome.
I’m sure he also wants Colt busting it to improve because injuries force the back-up QB to play, virtually every year on every every team. If Colt will be here he has to be more comfortable in this system, even if it’s just for Shurmur’s own job security.
Funny I could have sworn Shurmur and Heckert named Weeden the starter in that press conference the night they drafted him.
Wrong section dude! 😉
I’m biting my tongue though until it’s over but definitely smiling.
Paying for it today…more coffee
Pierce saying “I got your 5,6,7 right here ‘lady-dogs’ ” was absolutely classic (right after that 3pter in LeBron’s face)
That quote looks like something your computer might produce if you barfed while using ‘speech-to-text’ software. Man…this guy stinks at talking to the press.
Who do you think should be QB, Pat?
“Well…there are many factors to consider. You have to install a system, and when one guy gets rep in it, they all need reps, and it’s all about repetition. And philosophically speaking…what was the question?”
Is this accurate?? There’s an ESPNCleveland?! Who knew
I was trying to figure out what he was saying. All i could come up with after reading his lips was “I’m so blessed” haha I was WAYYYY off!
Charlie Manuel frowns at your comment while polishing his World Series ring…
Good effort! Good job!
That is probably an effect of giving ribbons to all these youngsters no matter how they perform. Funny, nonetheless.
Is that really what he said? I was trying to read his lips as well. Couldn’t make it out but knew he was talking some trash. Gotta love it!
It’s an AM radio station. Nothing ESPN is actually putting effort into. Don’t get your hopes up.
it’s been reported several places that those were the words. good enough for me 🙂

not his fault. his playoff gear is just not available 🙂
“We played good enough to give ourselves a chance to win,” James said. “That’s all you can ask for.”
or you could play good enough to give your team a chance to win by double-digits….
i found some heat playoff gear at skreened.
(too early to count heat out, imo.)
has anyone in NEO drawn the parallels between boston’s win in cleveland two years ago and last night’s win?
apropos of yesterday: that thing rondo said to doris burke in game 4? i think boston got 10 or 12 points in transition while miami was complaining. lolol..
it was funnier when JVG was counting how long it took Wade to get back on defense after complaining about a call 🙂
He may have said that in the huddle, but not right after the shot. Looks like he says “I’m cold blooded” to me.
football here not more of that james bullshit if you like that socalled sport then go to there site go browns
