Browns and Trent Richardson Reportedly Agree on Deal

ProFootballTalk is reporting that the Browns and Trent Richardson have “worked out” agreement on a contract.

It doesn’t sound like the ink is dry just yet, but as long as they’ve got something worked out, I can wait another day for it to be announced by the team. Rookies are due to report Wednesday, so there will even be travel time should Richardson not already be in Cleveland.

Now on to Weeden. The only person who doesn’t want Weeden to get signed yesterday is (probably) Colt McCoy.

Update. Chris Mortensen is reporting the numbers are finalized with $20.4 million total with a $13.6 million signing bonus.

Will be interesting to see how the Weeden deal unfolds. Richardson obviously *won* this deliberation. If Weeden gets that guaranteed year, the accusations of caving wouldn’t be far-fetched. That said, it can be assumed that getting both players in camp will be what’s more important. There’s a good argument that this front office/coaching staff shouldn’t be too concerned with what happens in 2016.

Excellent news! Now on to Weeden. They don’t have the luxury of being able to allow him to hold out, which could potentially inhibit his growth. The clock started ticking as soon as they picked a 28 year old rookie. The rules that normally apply to rookies do not apply in his specific case.

I’m not too worried about getting a reputation for “caving”. When year after year you’re a terrible team, agents and players know you’re desperate. Its not like we’re the patriots here that can stand back and say fine sit out, we’ll win without you and then you won’t get paid for a hole year. We’re the Browns, these guys know we NEED to have them on the field this year.

I hope you are wrong about the front office and coaching staff in 2016. For you to be wrong, they will have to be getting better and start winning games

but, Richardson didn’t really win as the next closest with that language was the 10th pick. the Browns FO was asking for too much with the offset language.

with Weeden, it’s stickier. we were the last team that gave the guarantee with Phil Taylor, so do we really want to be the last again? since he’s a QB there is more reason though. perhaps, we 1/2 guarantee that year to get to a middle ground?

either way, I expected everyone in camp on time and we are well on our way to that.

I think the Browns and Richardson won. We got a franchise RB and he got the money he wanted. We got an option for a fifth year and he got guarantees.

    It’s a win win.
