Contest Time: Win a Wild Thing Cleve-Land That I Love Shirt

Doesn’t this frustrating situation with the Indians make you want to scream? I’m right there with you.

So for this week’s GV Art and Design shirt giveaway, we’ve got a great looking shirt and I think we have an interesting question of the day. (Really, really love this design!)

To be entered in the random drawing for this fabulous free t-shirt, just comment on this post with an answer to this question-

What fictional baseball character (you know, made up from say a movie or book) would you have traded for at the deadline yesterday to help make the 2012 Indians a World Series contender? Tell us why and maybe who you would have gotten rid of for brownie points. (Brownie points not redeemable for actual prizes.)

Remember, only one entry per household please. Also, make sure the account you comment from is attached to an actual email address you check.

  • jbreg

Jack Parkman. Not only is he the right-handed power stick we need, but we can easily swipe him away from the Chi Sox with their addition of Youk. I’d then package Damon, Cunningham, Duncan, Lillibridge, LaPorta, Lowe, and Tomlin for a box of baseballs and a pouch of big league chew.

  • Patrick Glasser

I would trade for Ricky Vaughn (the Major League version not the cleaned up version during most of Major League 2). Someone with attitude and move him into the starting rotation.

  • DTPoling

I would have traded for two in Rick ” wild thing ” Vaughn and Willy Mays Hays those two could make the Indians contenders right now

  • UCBearcat2016

If I’m GM I’m trading for Sidd Finch. Give them Chris Perez. After that blowhard sees Sidd throw a 168 mph fastball, maybe he’ll think twice about bragging about his “cannon arm” on Twitter.

  • Steve Kubitza

Roy Tucker of the Brooklyn Dodgers. He’s a rookie with plenty of potential.

  • Nicole Parrot

I would totally trade Derek Lowe for Henry Rowengartner From Rookie of the year!

I would trade Many Acta for Lou Brown. Throw in the front office if you need to.

  • http://www.facebook.com/matt.gardner.10 Matt Gardner

Roy Hobbs from the natural. Best player SI can think of outside the Major League series and can’t pick them because they’re on tribe

  • Garry_Owen

Ernie Capadino (Jon Lovitz) from “A League of Their Own.”
I’d trade him straight up for Chris Antonetti. At least Ernie knew talent and how to acquire players in order to build a winner.
“Hey, no skin off my Ashtabula. You want to stay here plucking cows, that’s your business.”

  • Andrew

I would trade for Benny ‘The Jet’ Rodriguez from sandlot. I would have him take over the LF position. Benny would bring youth and athleticism to the LF position, which is currently occupied by Shelly Duncan and Johnny ‘Old Man’ Damon.

  • Dave Whittaker

I’d try to work a multi-team trade that would bring us Henry Rowengartner to tote the rubber everyday and Casey (from Casey at the Bat) to be our right handed hitting stud.

  • everymornin’

‘d trade for Benny “the jet” rodriguez. He’s a right handed bat, has the athleticism to play any position, has speed necessary to steal often, crushes the cover off the ball, and has the leadership qualities to motivate this team out of a slump. Plus he could be a young prospect who the Tribe could actually hope to keep years down the road because he’s loyal and plays for pure love of the game and enjoyment. He wouldn’t care about money/contracts (as seen by the fact that he gives Smalls a hat and glove for free) and he would never be a liability in the locker room (he’s a born leader and everyone looks up to him). He’d be on the field day in and day out like Cal Ripken Jr. just so he could play the game. If we could show him the love (which we would as die hard Cleveland fans), he’d show the love back and stick with us.

I’d trade johnny damon, smelly duncan, and maybe derek lowe if we could get DeNunez from the sandlot too

  • http://www.facebook.com/patrick.mackin Patrick C. Mackin

I’d trade for Dottie Hinson (Geena Davis’ character) from “A League of Their Own” because if I have to watch this ballclub, at least she’s better looking than say, Carlos Santana.

  • Steve K

Prolly hits better than him too

  • Justin Z

I would trade for G-Baby from the movie Hardball. He wouldn’t hit any homeruns, but he’d walk every time, and I’ll take a 1.000 OBP. Besides, I think Grady’s Ladies have given up hope, so they can be G-Baby’s Ladies now. Also, his brother Miles could bring a little heat on the mound, and the fans would be guaranteed to be singing some Notorious BIG from the stands: “I love it when you call me big papa!” Also, they’re super young, and we can have them for the next 20 years (that is, if G-Baby didn’t take that bullet). Still, the city of Cleveland attaches itself to players who have heart, and that’s what they’ve got.

  • CBI

Yanks slugger Clue Haywood. Right handed power at first base and he likes to refer to rookies as “meat”

  • Amanda Hunsaker

Marla Hooch from A League Of Their Own!

  • http://www.facebook.com/DeuceStone Ricky Deuce Stone

Benjamin Franklin Rodriguez from the Sandlot. He was the kid that went to the majors in the movie and I am positive he would be a better option than Cunningham.

  • Michael Beckwith

It HAS to be Roy Hobbs. For crying out loud he brought the New York Knights from last place to the pennant! Instead of waiting for Bump Bailey to crash through the wall to open up a place in the lineup, I would rather we just flip Shelly Duncan for Hobbs.

  • Harv 21

Going old school for that right-handed bat: Joe Hardy.

  • David Wright

Pablo Sanchez from Backyard Baseball. Big time right handed bat with 9/10 power, 9/10 contact, 10/10 speed, and a 7/10 on both speed AND pitching. He’s the answer. We would have to give up CP and cash considerations. Vinnie could move to closer and Tomlin could be our setup man. Pablo could do some work in the bullpen as well.

  • http://twitter.com/ClevelandBob Bob O’Brien

Benny “The Jet” Rodriguez from The Sandlot. Dude was a 5-tool player, and a good guy. I’d have dealt Chris Perez because screw Chris Perez, right?

  • Troy Alexander

Pepe cerrano, so we could finally have someone who could actually produce some offense!

  • http://www.facebook.com/davelb87 David W. Elbrecht

The voodoo man with a bad attitude, Pedro Cerrano. His right-handed power bat would look great in the cleanup spot and he’s an efficient fielder at a corner OF spot (likely in LF since Choo is already in RF). As an added bonus, maybe Jobu can breathe some life into Derek Lowe’s dead arm the same way he did for Eddie Harris.

  • Tribe162Plus

I would make a blockbuster deal by acquiring SP Ryan Dunne (Summer Catch) and OF Kelly Leak (Bad News Bears). Dunne is young and has a great arm, plus bringing along Jessica Biel doesn’t hurt, and Leak is the right handed bat with power the Tribe needs. I would give up a package of Tomlin, Phelps, and Kluber, some major league ready talent plus some prospects.

  • Cle kenny

Rookie of the year (that guy from American pie). Throw in the pitching coach (Daniel Stern).

  • http://twitter.com/GreatestHurley Jason Hurley

Pedro Cerrano – hands down. Right handed power and a winning attitude.

  • Steve_Not_Chad

Bingo Long, he was a crafty veteran pitcher who could give you quality starts and eat innings.

  • Nate

Wow, I can’t believe no one has yet picked Steve Nebraska from the movie “The Scout”. He only pitched a perfect game is his first ever major league appearance, on 81 straight strikes. Not to mention he also homered twice. Pretty sure having a guaranteed win every 4/5 games, while being a legitimate hitter on his “off” days would get the Indians to the playoffs.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Daniel-A-Main/773773766 Daniel A. Main

Henry Rowengartner!!! Not only would he step into the top of our rotation, He’d sell some tickets Eddie Gaedel-style. I would trade Derek Lowe, Aaron Cunningham, Johnny Damon, Jason Michaels, Mark DeRosa, and Luis Valbuena to get Rowengartner’s fastball.

  • KillerNut

Jon heders charecter from Benchwarmers. Not that he is any good but hes funny and seems to make the people around him better (even if it is just by comparisons). Llus then you could give away vote for pedro shirts

  • Doconn1188

Well obviously it would be Bobby Rayburn from the 1996 smash hit classic, The Fan.

  • DanTheBeagle

Crash Davis or Nuke Laloosh, because hopefully one of them would bring along Susan Surandon, and she was so hot in that movie. The combo of her and one of the boys would greatly improve the Tribe’s chances of winning.

  • Brian

“Moonlight” Graham from Field of Dreams. He’s a rookie so we’d have him under contract for the next 3 seasons. Plus, he’s a RH bat we can get for cheap. Think of the prospects we can get for him in 3 years!

    Signed,
    Indians’ Front Office

  • urahutia

Pedro Cerrano…a power bat with a lot of voodoo magic…which we could use right about now

  • http://www.facebook.com/shamirtrangle Shamir Trangle

I would trade for Billy “Downtown” Anderson from Major League: Back to the minors but only if they threw in Harry Doyle (Bob Eucker) for our entire roster of AAAA players (Canzler, Laporta, Carrera, Cluber, Huff and Gomez). These players are obviously better suited for the farm league and what better minor league team to play for than the Buzz. Anderson would give us that power bat we’re looking for and will actually use some of his minor league coaching and translate it to the Bigs. Harry Doyle goes without saying – not including him is a dealbreaker.

  • Ryan Lim

“Fausto Carmona,” played by Roberto H. Hernandez from “The 2007 World Series Champion Cleveland Indians” movie I play in my head throughout this season…

  • http://www.facebook.com/reid.kagy Reid Kagy

I would traded for Ray Mitchell from Angels in the Outfield…great athlete with great hair. I would have traded anybody currently on the roster that has tried to fill in at left field.

  • Natedawg86

That kid from Rookie of the year. No one could get a hit off him.

  • Dan

Henry Rowengarter from Rookie of the Year. #1 Starter that is clearly years away from being arbitration eligible haha

  • http://www.facebook.com/ted.perchinske Ted Perchinske

I would have to go with

  • http://www.facebook.com/ted.perchinske Ted Perchinske

I would have to agree…Roy Hobbs (even though he’s another lefty). However the reality is that we would end up with Pedro Serrano

  • http://www.facebook.com/Kylebrannan Kyle Brannan

Dottie Hinson from A league of their own. As you may know she is a women, but I bet she could move right into the starting rotation to fill in for Lowe and Tomlin. She can also pinch hit for Damon in late inning situations where you need enough power to hit a sac fly.

  • c taylor

That dude from the Yankees who kept torching Wild Thing (until the end)
    in Major League.

  • Connor B.

As bad as this teams needs a right handed corner out fielder, pitching is needed more. Give me ace Nuke LaLoosh. Time to give up on Laporta, Perz, and probably have to ship Lindor out as well.

  • Paul N.

Benny “The Jet” Rodriguez from The Sandlot. Has got some speed on the bases to get into scoring position, and a right handed bat that we need. And although they never showed his position, he was probably very versatile and could play Left Field and cover a lot of area for us there.

  • Mike Jones

    Best one ive read yet!!

  • R

Reg Mackworthy from EB&D. Huge right handed stick but only one eye. I’m sure we could get him for a player to be named later.

  • Dave C

I’d trade for Lou Brown. He took a bunch of bums and made them champions once before.
