NCAA Football: AP Preseason Poll Released, Buckeyes Start 18th

The preseason AP Poll was released today, and the Urban Meyer-led Ohio State Buckeyes will start 18th in the initial set of rankings. USC will start at #1, followed by Alabama, LSU, Oklahoma, and Orgeon. Other ranked Big Ten teams include Michigan (8th), Wisconsin (12th),  Michigan State (13th), and Nebraska (17th). You can find the entire set of rankings for both AP and ESPN/USA Today (which Ohio State is not eligible to be ranked in this year) here.

How is a team that finished 6-7 last season ranked 18th? Doesn’t make much sense…

How is Michigan ahead of Wisconsin and Michigan State?

Preseason rankings arent based entirely on what you did last year, its what you are expecting this year.

They acquired a proven national title winning head coach who has brought with him some of the best assistant coaches in the country, have a dynamic returning QB, stable of returning RB’s, an improved defense and are Ohio State.

I could probably argue them being ranked higher than 18 based on what their record should be due to the weak OOC schedule this year.

QB is sort of an important position in football. only one of those teams returns their signal-caller.

I agree, they are clearly top 10 with the upgrade in coaching.

Disagree being preseason ranked in the top 10.

The bowl ban alone keeps us out of there, plus Urb is playing out the last of Tressel’s recruits in his offense which is basically a square pegs scenario. He doesn’t have the talent at WR or the speed he needs all around.
I’d argue them in the top 15 for preseason but no more, no less.

Devin Smith out of Massillon is dynamic, though.

Yes, and Philly Brown has impressed in camp so far as well.

Not saying he has a “bad” group of receivers, they are just young and not his prototypical style of WR.
