Steelers Owner Issues Statement About Browns’ New Owner Jimmy Haslem

From the Steelers official website-

“Jimmy Haslam and his family have been great partners in the Steelers Ownership for the past three years. I am sorry that he will be leaving our Ownership group, but I am happy the National Football League is going to have a strong new Owner. I am sure the Haslam Family will bring constructive and able ownership to the Cleveland Browns.”

    I “heard” that too. “Constructive and able ownership, as opposed to the circus it has been for 13 years”

    Hell, since it’s the Steelers, they may even referring to the guy who left town. All he did was fire Paul Brown and cut Jim Brown. It’s been a while since the Browns had a not horrible owner.

    The only reason we were good in the 80′s was because of Accorsi and the breakup of the USFL.

    Classy message. Say what you want about Steeler fans, but their ownership is the league gold standard. I see no hidden meaning. To make an overly terse statement or no statement would be wrong. This is just good people making sure they say situation-appropriate things.

    and apparently this standard includes being a laughingstock franchise for 37 years before figuring out that illegal steroids would help football players a few years before other teams caught on in the 70s. and having several members of the ownership own gambling operations. but, hey, standards are standards.

    So I was just thinking about this: who is this guy’s agent? I remember reading an article about how Shurmur, Childress, Lerner, Holmgren (at least) all had the same agent representing them. Any word if that’s the case with Haslem?

    Pittspuke probably has those urine-yellow pants to make it really hard to tell if their players wet themselves, but they’ve had a system in place for years and we, well, haven’t until very recently. Hopefully Haslem will retain some continuity by retaining Heckert, maybe Shurmur, and the role for Holms is suspect with Philly’s old pres Banner being part of ownership.
