Pat Shurmur on Trent Richardson: “He’s not the kind of guy that taps out.”

Pat Shurmur spoke to the media about rookie RB Trent Richardson-

“I can see right away that I’m just going to quit asking him because he’s a competitive guy. He’s not the kind of guy that taps out. I don’t want our guys tapping out, but we as coaches keep an eye on them and if we can get a fresh guy in there we try to do that. I think that’s good for our team, it’s good for our city. Trent’s one of those guys.”

Richardson ran for 109 yards on 19 carries and one TD against the Bengals. He also caught 4 passes for 36 yards and a TD catch.

all well and good, Pat, as long as you remember that you’re the decider. None of this “he wouldn’t come out” stuff. Just like a baseball manager ignores the starter’s pleas, you need to know when it’s time for him to come out. Don’t need to create a leadership vacuum, your impact players will respect you more.

Shurmur probably doesn’t know what Richardson’s breaking point is either. Other than rookie mini camp, he hasn’t really sean him
