Browns Open Thread: Week 6 vs. Bengals

The Browns (0-5) look to collect their first win of the season today as they host divisional rival Cincinnati (3-2). While the Bengals haven’t been that bullet-proof this season, this looks like a stretch based on their dynamic playmakers on both sides of the ball.

Follow along with all of the action here at WFNY. Yours truly will be attending the game cheering on the Brownies, so hopefully they can finally crack the egg in the wins column this afternoon.

I’m predicting another close loss. I just can’t believe the difference when I look at the projected Week 1 starters compared to this week starters… Both DTs, both OLBs, and a starting WR… Plus, I think TJ Ward still has a messed up hand…

I can’t imagine them not running all over us. Let’s just hope for the first time this season, both our offense and defense have good games at the same time.

  • C-Bus Kevin

Keep the Bengal’s offense off the field with the run game…

Awwww, who am I kidding? We’re gonna throw it 50 times. This could be a blowout.

  • Lyon25

    Wish you were wrong

  • C-Bus Kevin

    Interception…

The bad luck feels worse when you’re winless.

  • NoVA Buckeye

Marecic can’t catch… why did we get rid of Vickers again?

  • http://www.waitingfornextyear.com/ Scott @ WFNY

Because he wanted a multi-year, multi-million dollar contract.

  • NoVA Buckeye

Wait, Josh Cooper is white? (insert OMIGOD NEXT WES WELKER text)

  • NoVA Buckeye

HARDESTY GETS A CARRY??? IS THIS SOME KIND OF TRICK PLAY????

  • NoVA Buckeye

… and we have the money to pay him… ugh.

  • C-Bus Kevin

    Touchdown!!!

I’m seeing a pattern. The receivers selected to start for this team stink while the backups are playing much better. How is Cooper stuck on the practice squad on THIS team?

Also, Marecic has naked pics of Shurmur…that’s the only explanation.

  • C-Bus Kevin

    THANKS ALEX MACK!!!

    #facepalm

  • Ritz

3rd amd long, run a draw and give up. And Pat Shurmir wonders why people criticize his play calling…

  • NoVA Buckeye

The Bengals have our scouting report. Game over.

  • Lyon25

Is Usama Young Heckert’s worst Free Agent signing?

  • C-Bus Kevin

I just want to know how they run a defense at the goal line that takes Haden off of Green. They just did the Bengals a favor.

  • NoVA Buckeye

He’s his only free agent signing, so yes.

  • NoVA Buckeye

I hate trying to be positive with this team, even though I want to, but Shurmur, win or lose, has to go. The offensive playcalling is downright stupid and at worst questionable. The staff has to go, too. The team is not playing at its highest level and is making mental errors. That can’t be happening. You saw how Ed Warriner came to Ohio State and had the offensive line immediately playing at a higher level than they did the past 10 years. That’s downright ridiculous when we don’t have any projected NFL talent on the starting line despite having tons of future NFL talent during the Bollman era. Just get this guy out of here and bring in Gruden, Tressel, Dungy, Cowher, I DON’T CARE! I just want someone who has an IMPRESSIVE track record and doesn’t look like someone who’d be way in over his head like Pat Shurmur or Romeo Crennel.

  • NoVA Buckeye

Hell, at this point, I’m all for bringing Schottenheimer out of retirement if it means winning games.

  • C-Bus Kevin

Did that stat just say that the Browns have t scored on the first drive of the 2nd half of 29 (now 30) straight games?

That is remarkable in a really bad way.

  • Ritz

So many crap screens that don’t work, we run like 15 per game, it’s not fooling anyone Pat!

  • C-Bus Kevin

    Marecic…naked pics of Shurmur.

    What else could it be?

  • Ritz

It is now 100% obvious that Pat Shurmur is a horrible coach. He is an awful playcaller, even now with an OC and an offseason. If the Browns offense was simply average, this game would be completely different.

  • Lyon25

Cribbs’ last return actually showed some explosion. Be nice if he could hav that burst back

  • CBI

Vickers is stinking it up in Dallas. Unfortunately, I don’t think he would have been the answer either.

  • http://www.facebook.com/exit322 Josh Stein

Good, because I know I’d want Richardson blocking instead of running on 3rd and 1.

  • C-Bus Kevin

    3rd and 1 strikes again!

This time, poor play design is the culprit. That play couldn’t have been easier to defend in the middle. It looked like a 5-year-olds soccer game with the entire team bunched up in one spot on the field.

  • BuckeyeDawg

Passing on 3rd and 1 at the Bengals 16. Here we go again. At least Weeden didn’t throw a pick, but still…

  • http://www.facebook.com/exit322 Josh Stein

I offer my deepest sympathies for the fans of whatever team, at whatever level, that hires Coach Shurmur this coming offseason.

  • Hector

    21_20 Bengals u already !

  • http://www.facebook.com/exit322 Josh Stein

And given his history…Schottenheimer usually means winning games.

  • http://www.facebook.com/exit322 Josh Stein

While Hardesty is actually playing well…is something wrong with Richardson?

  • Kenny_Chill

This game better not mean Shurmer gets another year….

  • Lyon25

He’d have to go undefeated rest of the yr for that

  • http://twitter.com/oribiasi oribiasi

Haha I must have said that same comment to like four other people. Yikes.

  • Ritz

Win #1… Browns win despite horrible offensive coaching!

  • http://twitter.com/oribiasi oribiasi

It’s almost like we won this game in spite of the coaching.

I will echo Josh Stein below — to whomever hires Shurmur (even the local Wal-Mart), you have my condolences.

  • Happy

Lol @ anyone who thought the Browns would go 0-16 this season

  • NoVA Buckeye

So as long as it’s Marty and not Brian.

  • NoVA Buckeye

Watch it be the Steelers or the Ravens. No seriously, watch it be them. I won’t feel bad for them, I’ll laugh at them.

  • NoVA Buckeye

    Jauron’s defense bailed him out.

  • NoVA Buckeye

I won’t feel sorry for him when 6 year old kids are calling him “f**” at every corner.

  • NoVA Buckeye

He was playing well in Houston last year.

  • hutch058

    what happened to richardson?

  • CBI

    Well enough to get cut.

  • Lunch

Injury. How bad, I don’t know

  • Kenny_Chill

I jokingly said they were looking at 0-16 last year, but realistically, 0-16 is like 16-0. Both need a lot of luck to happen.

My prediction all along has been 2-14. I’m beginning to get scared they might go 4-12 and Shurmer somehow keeps his job, though.

  • Harv 21

in the wco a FB is a receiving option – do you remember Vickers trying to catch? If he was here we’d be watching him drop the same passes and saying, “why did we pay this guy the millions he demanded when he doesn’t fit this offense?”

Please stop with the Vickers obsession. He has a cro-magnon skill set, a lighter offensive lineman. Just because Marecic is the wrong guy doesn’t make Vickers the right one.
