Cleveland Browns Film Room: Game 6, Rookie Defenders
October 18, 2012Dick Jauron on Joe Haden: “There’s a toughness involved there”
October 18, 2012Editor’s note: For those who are disappointed that we no longer do “The Browns Will Win If…” with discussion, etc. Have no fear. We’ll still be doing something like that via podcasting. Rick and I are planning on previewing the matchup this week. Plus, if you want to go ahead and break down the matchup otherwise in the comments, you are encouraged to do so.
I expect this to be a pretty difficult week to predict not knowing the health of Trent Richardson, but we’ll see. Maybe Montario Hardesty has some new believers after his relief appearance a week ago.

these are dumb
I do miss the ‘Brown will win if…’ segment, but I wouldn’t say this is dumb. I think it gives good feelers as to what Browns fans are expecting each week.
Two in a row for the Pumpkinheads!
Colts DL is beatup and not really meant for a 3-4 anyway (Pagano force-fitting it right now). Colts OL has been regressing a bit lately and they have no run game to fear (which means we can focus on pass-D).
This game is setup for us to win, which makes me nervous. Weeden has beaten Luck before though, so we have that going for us, which is nice.
Vick Ballard looked terrible last week, and the Colts O-Line hasn’t done much in the way of run blocking this season. I think the Browns should have a relatively easy time forcing them to be one dimensional.
As such, I think the game turns on how much pressure the Browns can put on Luck in the passing game. The Browns have been fairly opportunistic against the pass this year, and I hope it continues. I’m cautiously optimistic. (Bills game shell-shock.)
Biggest stat to me is that the Colts are 29th against the run in terms of yards/carry, giving up 5.0 ypc. (The Browns aren’t much better, sadly, giving up 4.6.) I tend to think that, right now, the Browns are better equipped in terms of their offense and RBs (assuming any contribution from TRich, but maybe even if not) to exploit this stat. Browns are getting 3.9 ypc offensively, and the Colts only 3.6 ypc.
A more constructive approach would be appreciated. I spend a lot of time putting these together and then summarizing them and mining them for details to get a pulse on how people are feeling.
yes, I agree.
In the passing game, I do fear that the return of MoMass will lead to less snaps for Gordon. I really hope that we just bench Little (or give him fewer snaps at least).
Yet here you are, responding to it. If you think it’s so dumb, don’t read it.
no u
Do these and “The Browns Will Win If…” have to be mutually exclusive? Why not have both? There seems to be enough interest/demand, and (with no offense intended), we may not be so interested in listening to the podcast (we’d rather participate in the discussion ourselves).
I wish I was wrong. New depth chart updated:

Little and MoMass starting. Please give Gordon lots and lots of snaps.
This is a dangerous thing to say, but we can and probably even should win this game. This is a big game for this young team. Can we capitalize on the momentum and confidence that last weeks win has given us? Or will we lay an egg against a team that is one of the worst in the league?
The term “cautiously optimistic” has never been more fitting. I’m confident that they can win, but I’ve seen them lose this game so many times that nothing would really surprise me.
Are we ready to turn the corner? If we want to start proving that it’s not the “same old Browns”, you have to win this game. If they can win this one, the next two weeks at the Stadium could be a lot of fun with a reeling San Diego team and the MASH unit that is the Ravens coming to town…
38-17 Browns. Bustin out week for everyone.
funny, that is the exact same score that I put in the survey this week. 2 TDs for Gordon!
Glad to see Benjamin back though too. I was starting to enjoy Cooper also after last week. This WR corps may lack a true #1 – but I feel it is better than most people give it credit for. Or, is it a simple case of Weeden making them look competent. Either way, it’s been a much improved passing attack then what we watched last season.
I had 34-17. In with the good….out with the bad. In with the good….out with the bad.
Not to jump ahead….but 2-5 after this week…..catch San Diego at home after a bye week they could be sloppy, we move 3-5 there, and get an injury riddled Ravens team as we look for Thursday Night Revenge, and suddenly my hope of 4-5 into the bye is not so crazy.
Ok. Yeah it is.
I never really liked the “browns will win if…”. I have enjoyed these polls though.
two in a row would start the “playoffs?” talk. Three, a Save Shurmur movement meets in a dingy basement and organizes robocalls. Four? Marecic is praised as a valuable blocker, good teammate and leader. (Just kidding about 4 – can’t happen and won’t happen).
crazy like a fox!
much improved from last year, no doubt. Little went home yesterday with the flu (hey, he can catch something), so perhaps Gordon does continue to get a good number of snaps.
Gordon and Benjamin have both looked good this year. Norwood and Cooper have looked competent enough underneath. If MoMass can stay healthy, and Cameron can block well enough to stay on the field, we have the makings of a nice group.
With the Browns at 6-5 going into December, an updated version of “The 12 Days of a Browns Christmas” (Alex Mack a-hikin’) is released and becomes an iPod smash.

I am hoping for a big game from Brandon Weedon, like we all are. But I have decided to roll the dice and start him in my fantasy league. My team is beaten down with bye weeks this week and probably will lose regardless of who I start, so I want to have some fun.
