Full disclosure: I was asked to be part of Verizon Wireless Midwest Bloggers program. I have been provided with a wireless device and five months of service in exchange for my honest opinions about the product. The phone is the Motorola Razr M. At the end of the program I get to keep the phone.
I figured something useful for our readers might be some app reviews. Today I am going to share my experience with the preloaded NFL Mobile app. The NFL Mobile app and I had a rocky beginning.
One of the best features of the app is the ability to watch NFL Network programming, including the Thursday night games. There is a charge of $5.00 per month for this service. (Data rates also apply.) Again for full disclosure, this is included in my trial program. I am not paying for the service during this football season.
The resolution on screen is pretty impressive. Now my previous phone was a Droid X, so that’s what I have been used to. My wife has an I-phone 4s, so I also use it from time to time. Two weeks ago I was with a group of guys watching playoff baseball at a restaurant. They didn’t get the NFL Network. It was quite a little scene watching a half dozen guys huddled around a 4 inch screen.
As you would expect, you can pull up stats, schedules, rosters and the like for all 32 teams. You can also view original NFL Network programming on the app. I watched the Cleveland ’95 A Football Life special on the app.
So what complaints do I have about the app? To start with, the app kept crashing the first phone they sent me. They couldn’t identify why I kept getting error messages and eventually sent me a new phone.
The app worked on the second phone. Until the one Sunday I needed to hear the Browns game through the audio option. Figures.
The bottom line for me is that the app isn’t always dependable. When it works, it is pretty neat, but being somewhat frugal, I don’t know that I would pay the additional premium for the features. Especially since my cable company finally agreed to a deal with the NFL Network. Let’s face it. There are plenty of ways to find out stats and see the schedule.
