Richardson: I Feel Like the Losing is my Fault

The defense is going to try and key on me regardless. Thats the one thing they have adone and they’ve seen me play a little bit more now so they are going to try to key on me more than antying now, but that makes it easier for our receivers. Brandon [Weeden] had what, over 300 passsing yards? That’s good with me if we win the game. But if they key on me and we lose, I feel like it’s my fault.

– Cleveland Browns running back Trent Richardson, Wednesday, when asked how opposing defenses have changed their plans over the course of the season. Through four games, Richardson has 222 yards on the ground and 122 via the passing game, scoring four total touchdowns.

really starting to love this kid.

  • http://www.waitingfornextyear.com Andrew Schnitkey

I kind of love this man.

  • JHop

For being the only offensive skill player on the Browns that could ever start for another NFL team, he really shouldn’t feel this bad.

  • Garry_Owen

It’s not your fault, Trent. It’s Art Modell’s.
    (Too soon?)

  • maxfnmloans

someone please show TR the “Not your fault” scene from Good Will Hunting, STAT!

  • jsnowbed

The losing is clearly Shurmer’s fault. What a dud of a coach. I’m “WFNY” when we get a real head coach. Dude was the OC for the Rams when they went 1-15. How about hire an actual proven winner? Just so sad. Factory of sadness couldn’t be more true.

  • 216in614

im normally don’t jump on the bashing cleveland coaches bandwagon (acta, wedge, brown even managini) but shurmur is a special kind of awful.

hopefully TRich won’t have to take his ceaselessness much longer.

yeah, let’s hire a proven winner like Phil Savage for GM and Romeo Crennel for HC. Man, those guys were with winning organizations their whole careers. They “get it!”

or follow the SF model and hire a proven franchise building college HC like a Butch Davis.

maybe we need a HC with some proven experience like Eric Mangini.

no, I got it. we need that hot-shot coordinator with all of the new fangled schemes on offense. like Chris Palmer.

  • jsnowbed

You’re right @mgbode – we’re screwed no matter who they hire.

  • mgbode

that wasn’t really my point though ;)

my point was that it doesn’t matter where the coach comes from or what his media talking points are about him. all that matters is that we hire the right guy. who is the right guy? i don’t know. heck, it could end up being Shurmur for all we know (i am NOT saying that it is). but, until we get the right people hired, give them time to build their organization and let it flourish; we will just be continually going through the rat-race of tearing down and trying to build back up.

Jim Brown: I feel like the losing is Trent’s fault.

  • Garry_Owen

I like when you get sarcastic. You don’t go there often, but when you do it’s scathing.

TR will be special in this league, but for now, it’s hard to influence the game when the coach keeps you out of it for so many plays.

This is not a Nick Saban coached team — a well-oiled machine. Our coach is like a not very mechanical kid who got an erector set for Christmas and lost the instructions. He’s never sure what to do with the coolest parts.

  • BenRM

I know this is one of those things guys just say, but it makes me sad

  • steve-o

If anything he’s the guy who’s least at fault. When we win a game it’ll probably be mostly his fault (but he’ll be the first to credit his team).

  • https://twitter.com/jimkanicki jimkanicki

    whoa there buddy.

how bout we start with NOT hiring your DC’s nephew from your agent’s stable who was a TEN YEAR ‘qb coach’ before moving on to an undistinguished two years as an OC. let’s NOT hire the OC who goes 2-14 on 3rd downs in the biggest game of his career. i mean.. call me crazy.. lets maybe -MAYBE- rule that guy out and move on to the next.

cripes man. i mean youve seen the last 20 games right? two TDs in the first qtr in 20 games? from the “West Coast Offense’ specialist? because that was shurmur’s thing right — he’s the offensive schemer/planner. he’s the guy calling the plays no? and youre getting down on someone going out on a limb to say he a dud?

[ps, 7 likes for bode on that comment? what has happened to the wfny i used to know.]

  • TSR3000

The people that are complaining about TR’s limited touches are likely the same people that said before the season that we need to “limit his touches.”

  • The_Real_Shamrock

Like I said before this team needs 10x the T-Richardsons and I don’t mean RBs!

Oh and a real head coach wouldn’t hurt too.

  • Natedawg86

Yeah T-Rich would be riding the bench everywhere else as well. Good point JHop

  • kyle

does the word “start” elude you?

  • Vindictive_Pat

If QB is considered a skill player, then I call shenanigans. I think Weeden would start over Blaine Gabbert.

  • Stinkfist

Thanks for feeling responsible, Trent, but this team has been losing way before you got here

  • Harv 21

love this analogy. Sometimes I think it’s because he’s never had the job of putting stuff together and could have used some practice with blocks or legos first. Hope he’s not the spastic drooler who’s gonna force that thin metal piece over there and try to bend it til it fits or at least gets close, but can’t understand why the holes won’t line up like the picture on the box. Probably too harsh, the offense is better this year.

  • saggy

Certainly, the erector set is missing some parts, though.

  • saggy

why are there “dislikes”? this is funny!

  • mgbode

jim buddy, please see my clarification post below. the comment above was just to get the discussion started on a nice sarcastic tone :)

  • mgbode

thank you sir. have to preserve those bullets for when they are needed.
