Shurmur: “It’s a little easier to talk progress once you’ve won a game.”

Pat Shurmur earlier today on the offense’s improvement-

“You’ve heard me say it numerous times, it’s about scoring points and we’ve scored more points this year. So in my mind, we’re making improvements. Now why is that happening? Well, I think we’ve put some players on the field this year that have the ability to get in the end zone and they’ve shown it. You want those explosive plays, you want to score points and as coaches what do we grind on? The efficiency of things so that you make that process easier. We’re 1-5. We have to be better in all areas, but it’s a little easier to talk about progress once you’ve won a game now. We have to continue to improve. This is a game you have to practice to get good at it and that’s what we’re working on today.”

Trent Richardson, Travis Benjamin, Mohamed Massaquoi, Ahtyba Rubin and Jason Pinkston all returned to at least limited duty at practice today. Richardson said he will play Sunday. He may wear a protective jacket under his shoulder pads to help pad his sore ribs.

Gotta wonder if last week’s performances of Gordon, Hardesty and Greco are assisting a suspiciously quick healing process for some of these guys. No one likes seeing their replacements do that well.

I don’t think Trent is scared

If i remember the play, wasn’t it our own guys that were holding him up on a play up the middle? I don’t even think he was tackled on the play and it didn’t look like a huge hit, but it could have been a play or two before the one that I noticed the change.

  • Harv 21

    Scared, no. Annoyed, no doubt.

Thought I saw the play where he was hurt early, was kind of twisted and pushing when he was hit from the side and he reacted funny as he tried to get up. He usually pops right up after every hit like it was nothing.

I can’t imagine that 1 sub 100 yard game versus 33 other games on the roster (since he missed so many) for Hardesty has anyone in the organization thinking he turned the proverbial corner.

the FOs eval of Hardesty wasn’t my point at all about Hardesty/Richardson. What I meant: Trent is a competitor who already takes dead seriously his responsibility as a high draft pick and leader. As the o-line started opening some holes in the second half it was his replacement ripping off some yardage. We saw the sideline let-me-in look on his face when he still holding his helmet. Wasn’t suggesting that Hardesty is coming on, just that Trent is dying to contribute to a win. Now Pinkston and Benjamin, that’s something else, their snaps are at stake.

Won a game…this year but more importantly won a game…in your division in two years, great job Pat keep it up!

I feel pretty bad for the guy. It’s not his fault he was hired despite being underqualified, I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt that Holmgren didn’t hire him an OC his first year. I’m not sure there’s any coach that could have done much in his situation (albeit they could have done more). But how much does it suck for him to finally nab a win, and then find out that there’s almost no chance his job is safe?

Also, Mortensen earlier today mentioned that Chip Kelly may be the next Browns coach. I know its rumor, but I’m not a fan of coaches whose primary ability is being able to outscheme slow NCAA LBs.
