NFL News: Browns scrap white flag giveaway for Steelers game

Positive news arrives from the Cleveland Browns media relations department today. And yes, I can’t remember the last time I typed such a sentence. But I’m sure this statement didn’t arrive immediately after the Ohio State Buckeyes game as merely just a coincidence:

After further and careful consideration, we felt it was in the best interests of everyone involved that we not have a giveaway item at tomorrow’s game. It is something that was intended to be fun for our fans and that they could rally around and we regret that some didn’t perceive it that way. We want to thank all of our fans for their tremendous support and we look forward to seeing them out in force at the stadium tomorrow.

So it looks like after all, there will be no white flag giveaway against the Pittsburgh Steelers after all. With Charlie Batch starting, Joe Haden playing and now this, the week has continued to get better and better for Browns fans.

It still feels like they’re not accepting responsibility for this baffling promotion. “…we regret that some didn’t perceive it that way.” It should read, “we regret the poor design of the promotion.” It did not take extreme thinking to see this as a surrender flag.

I’m siding with the Browns on this one. Christ, the team puts the helmet on a white background flag, and the local blogosphere, jumps on it for sensationist purposes. The headline on this site said; “Browns hand out white flags” or something like that. From what I gather its a Browns helmet on a white background. Overreact much? Only in this pathetic, twisted, oversensitive, town would this become an issue. Did any of you jagoffs know that 31 other teams have a home white uniform? Did anyone know it is an easy background to use? Are you all that pathetic that any symbolism remotely conected to “losing” is grounds for protest? Its a f#*)ing souvenier flag! Its a throwaway thing that your kids like for 6 hours and forget about, and you sad sacks have made it big enough to force the teams PR department to intervene, and then you are mad that the PR department didn’t intervene enough? I love this team but sometimes you people are completely sideways and deserve the crappy product that you demand. I sincerely believe that anyone who is upset by this should either get cancer, or find someone close to them to get cancer, or something else lifethreatening so that they can gain perspective as to what is worth getting upset over.

You should take your own medicine. You wrote way too many words to tell ppl not to overreact. And the cancer stuff is bush league buddy.
