NBA News: Cavaliers’ Donald Sloan given warning for flopping (Video)
November 6, 2012Cavaliers’ coaster ride heads back up in win over the Clippers
November 6, 2012Browns head coach Pat Shurmur, from yesterday’s session with the media-
I can’t tell you exactly. I know exactly why. There were a couple situations getting the right people in the game, getting the play to the quarterback in a timely fashion and then him calling it properly. That’s the string of events. There were a couple times yesterday that didn’t get done. I’m absolutely responsible for that. We’ll make changes here and we’ll streamline some of things. That’s what’s nice about the bye week. It’s about the Browns. It’s about whoever you’re team is you focus on, ‘What can we do better as we move forward?’ We just happen to have the latest bye of the season. For instance, we’ll look at third and ones, what we can do better, the people we use, the plays we run as we move forward to make that absolutely better. We’re going to do that.
(On why the plays didn’t get in on time) – I mentioned about the communication. That’s something that we’re going to talk about. I’ll take full responsibility for all of it. I think we can streamline some things to help the players execute better. That’s about what I’ll say about that.
(On the play calling process) – Brad (Childress) and I call the game. I send in the play to the quarterback, and then he calls the play in the huddle. That’s it. (It’s) very simple.
(On the conversations between himself and Childress) – We talk about what the plays are going to be. We have them written down, we just don’t make them up as we go. Then there’s also getting different players in the game because we use multiple players. There’s a lot that goes on. That’s where we need to be better than we were the other night in all of that and make sure it happens.

“I can’t tell you exactly. I know exactly why.”
Huh, Pat?
“We’ll make changes here and we’ll streamline some of things. That’s what’s nice about the bye week.”
That’s also what’s nice about OTAs and training camps. Pat, if you and Childress can’t put your rookie QB in a position to succeed by getting plays and groups in and giving him plenty of time to organize things on the field, maybe understandable why he regressed with reads and getting in a groove.
Maybe it’s me, but repeatedly botching these basics is failing HC-101 level stuff. We put up with overwhelmed last year, this year you just gotta be whelmed, Pat. You’ve made yourself a fat straw target for pitchfork practice. And so next year we’ll introduce our 4th head coach in 6 years. Great.
Wow the quotes in the story above read like a bad acid trip. What is that line from Billy Madison about rambling incoherent answers?
I know my disdain for the dude clouds my judgment sometimes, but his statements are so devoid of any substance or specificity that it’s mindnumbing—“Well it comes down to the things that we do, and the plays that are called, and the way the plays are played, and the players that play the plays, and the players that play the other players.”
he said ” I can” i think
yessir. new HC coming. hopefully, we finally find the right man for the job.
Firing Pat Shurmur is the only way to improve communications.
“I mentioned about the communication. That’s something that we’re going to talk about. ” Haha that just made my day
Haha, never change Pat.
Anyone willing to bet a beer that he won’t even be interviewed for another head coaching job for at the very minimum, five years?

We should never be talking about this. Do your job. You have 40 seconds from the end of the play to get the play to the QB, get the right people in there, and hike the ball. Not hard.
Let me start off by saying I’m totally on board with booting Pat outta here, but dang it I am sick of hiring the wrong guy and then firing him two or three years later. It goes along with the Sporting News article about worst franchise. Can we please hire someone with experience, or maybe even an up and comer who “everyone” says is an up and comer. In case the new owner hasn’t noticed….. You won’t catch lightning in a bottle in Cleveland!! The football gods hate us, and love watching us squirm. So please for the love of whatever you think is holy….. HIRE A GUY AND STICK WITH HIM!!!!!
Hire a spokesperson so Shurmur doesn’t have to do his own speaking. He shoots himself in the foot repeatedly it’s no wonder they can’t do something as simple as get a play in from the sideline.
I’ve had enough “up and comers” which is why I’ll keep repeating myself and say that a head coach with a resume who has been a professional head coach before is what is needed. Haslam and Banner will be the foundation and set the tone now the job becomes to bring in a head coach and probably a GM who both have resumes showing tangible evidence of what they have accomplished. Ideally you hire two people who share similar football ideals who will work hand in glove which should finally create some stability. I’d also like to see people who don’t come in with a stringent mind set such as “I run the West Coast offense period” forcing players to have to change what they do best. I’d prefer someone who can work with the players who will accentuate what they do best teaching, coaching and improving their skills into a unit or this case team.
Apparently calling a play in the NFL is effing ROCKET SCIENCE
I’m surprised that any team can get plays called on a regular basis! Keep up the great work, Pat.
NOT ANDY REID!!
“That’s about what I’ll say about that.”
Did he really go Forest Gump on us? I was in favor of letting him run out the string but I have to admit I think its probably best if he went now. The way he over explains things until even he doesn’t understand them, has got to be having an effect on such a young team. If there were a football team in the Terry Gilliam movie “Brazil”, Shurmur would be the perfect coach. amiright? huh? hu… oh yeah nobody’s seen it.
Like in a Monty Python bit? Would Holmgren portray Mr. Creosote and Shurmur the guy that keeps feeding him?
If Philly fires Andy Reid, we should hire him. Reid is a good HC and won’t screw with our current situation with Childress and Jauron staying as the coordinators.
It depends. Is his agent able to convince people that Shurmur’s a member of some obscure minority and can get Rooney Rule interviews that way?
Well, first off, Banner and Reid just finished years of butting heads- no reason to think either gentleman wants more rounds of that. Reid has a good enough rep that he should be able to go elsewhere eventually and get final say on the roster if he wants it. He won’t get that here.
Secondly, I was not so impressed with Reid’s coaching when we opened against them. I understand he may have been force-feeding Vick to get him going even as their running game was killing us, but it seemed very risky and almost cost them the game. Also wondering if, in light of his recent family tragedy and consecutive years as head coach, Reid really needs a year away to catch his breath and recharge.
Dead on with the reference.

“What you’ve just said … is one of the most insanely idiotic things that I’ve ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought.
Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it.
I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.”
Absolutely right, Chuck. And it would improve a lot more than communication.
Name another team’s coach that has to answer such stupid questions. Thats not indictment of the media. Thats how incompetent Shurmur actually might be.
Holmgren stuck us with a real winner! This guy is a complete idiot.
