December 17, 2012Jason LaCanfora: Mike Lombardi still leading candidate to push Heckert out
December 17, 2012Congratulations are in order to co811809 who had the winning comment from Friday and will be enjoying a Lake Erie Monsters hockey game!
Yesterday was an ugly game and loss for the Browns. It certainly had me nostalgic for better days at the stadium. Today we’re giving away a bit of that nostalgia.
Just a reminder how the giveaway works. Each weekday we will give away a Cleveland themed prize. To enter, you need only to respond in the comment section in the appropriate manner. The winner each day will be randomly selected and notified by email. (Which means you better make sure that the email address you use to comment here is a legit one.) I cannot guarantee delivery by Christmas. We’ll do our best with the things we have in hand. Only one member of a household can enter each day, and only one winner per household during the length of this contest. Just spreading the love around.
And now today’s contest-
This prize is a great one. First, you get an 18×12 inch photo of Cleveland Browns Webster Slaughter and Reggie Langhorne doing the famous leaping high five during a game against the Broncos. Both Slaughter and Langhorne have signed it. In addition, you get the t-shirt from GV Art and Design that the photo inspired. Any Browns fan old enough to remember the Bernie Kosar days would LOVE to have this pair.
Today’s Question:
There have been many great moments in Cleveland sports (no really, I swear). Today’s question simply asks if you could get in a time machine with tickets to any Cleveland sporting event in history what would it be?
Remember that to enter you need to 1) re-state the question and 2) answer the question.
Comments must be posted by midnight Cleveland time in order to qualify for the drawing. Check back tomorrow at noon for the results. Remember, only one entry is allowed, but you may still comment to add to the discussion.
Good luck!

It was before my time, but I want to go back to May 1983 when Len Barker pitched a perfect game against Toronto. I would have also been able to see Rick Manning, Mike Hargrove, Andre Thorton, and Joe Carter as well as saying I actually was there with the scorecard and ticket as proof.
I’m taking this time machine into the future to the night the Cleveland Browns finally win a Super Bowl.
Book it.
Done.

Browns overtime win over the Jets in 1986. I was 9 at the time and remember watching it on TV. Would have been awesome to have been there in person.

December 24th, 1950 – 30-28 victory in NFL Championship over LA Rams.
I would have to go back and see Otto Graham coached by Paul Brown. Just have to. So, it was the actual championship game over the “validation” game on September 16th vs. the Eagles that season.
Now, if I am allowed to double-dip and go see Bob Feller’s complete game win over Washington as well on Sept. 16, 1950, then I will gladly take that one.

Game 6, 1995 ALCS. I’d get to watch Kenny score from 2nd and then celebrate a trip to the World Series.

I would have to say the 1964 Cleveland Browns championship game. This is the last time Cleveland won a championship and I would love to know what that feels like !!

Any time to see Jim Brown run in person. He was the best ever!

Gotta be Dec. 27, 1964, when the Browns upset the Colts for our last title.

Not sure if this counts, but I’d want watch Jesse Owens compete at the 1936 Berlin Olympics.

That’s easy, December 27, 1964. Browns 27, Colts 0. Gary Collins caught three touchdown passes from Frank Ryan. Who knew it would be the last championship in Cleveland.

Game 7 of the 1997 World Series so I could yell to Sandy Alomar to slide at home in the top of the 9th inning instead of being tagged out standing up, losing that all important insurance run.

1954 NFL Championship, at Municipal, in which the Browns crushed the Lions 56-10. I would love to experience any Browns championship, but one of that magnitude would be insane.

Gotta be our last championship, December 27, 1964. Boring answer, but it’s been a rough 48 years. Awesome prize today, good luck everyone!
Today’s question simply asks if you could get in a time machine with tickets to any Cleveland sporting event in history what would it be?
I’d love to see the 1954 NFL Championship, where the Browns gave the Lions a 56-10 drubbing. Seeing Paul Brown coaching the classic lineup of Otto Graham, Lou Groza and Dante Lavelli would’ve been amazing.

Lebron’s game 2 winner over Orlando. I just remember that being the most excited I’ve ever been watching a game, so to be there live to see it would be incredible.

AFC Championship Game, I would run on the field in the middle of John Elways touchdown pass, bat it down and gladly get hauled off jail. What do I care? I’m from the future, right?

1954 World Series. My Grandmother who passed away a few years ago was a die hard Indians fan all her life. She was at one of the games while pregnant with my mother. I would love to A) be at an Indians World Series game and B) see one last game with my Gradmother. (Even though we were swept in the series)

October 26, 1997… Game 7 of the World Series.

March 29, 2011…I’ve been a Cleveland fan for every day of my near 29 years on earth and the Cavs double-digit victory over the Heat was a thing of beauty…I would love to have been in-house to watch the game go down…
That is an overlooked event in our chronicles of What Ifs. Jose Mesa gets most of the blame, but Alomar didn’t bust it on that play. If you’re not going to hustle in the 9th inning of Game 7 of the World Series, when ARE you going to hustle?

The entire 1995 Indians season. What an awesome ride that was.

With a time machine I would feel personally obligated to get outside of living memory. So, opening day of League Park with Cy Young pitching May 1, 1891.

I’d travel back in time to 2000 and stop the Dolan’s from purchasing the Indians.

1954. So I could see the world series and the NFL championship in the same year.

December 27, 1964 at Cleveland Municipal Stadium. The crowd and the subsequent city wide celebration of the Cleveland Browns (or any Cleveland professional sports team) last NFL Championship had to have been one of the greatest days for any fan of our city and their teams.

Bob Feller’s Opening Day no hitter, April 16th 1940. Not only is it Opening Day but it is the ONLY time anyone in the history of baseball has thrown a no hitter on Opening Day.

The Boobie Gibson 3 point fest when the Cavs knocked off the Pistons in the playoffs. I know everything from that era has lost some of its luster to a lot of fans, but I have never been as pumped up after a win as I was that night, and I had to watch the game on a tiny television in a hotel room while travelling between Utah and Cleveland.
If you could get in a time machine with tickets to any Cleveland Sporting event in history what would it be?
Game 6 of the 2007 ECF. Boobie for three. Again and again and again. Hard to believe that was the only trip we took.

I would love to have tickets to one of the Browns championships, preferably 1964. To be able to cheer for a champion would be an amazing experience.

September 8, 1995. Indians vs. Orioles. The day the Tribe clinched the division and knew they were going to the playoffs ending a ridiculous drought. Seriously! September 8th!!! Also the day after Cal broke the streak and he was honored by the Indians that night as well. Quite a celebration that night.

December, 24 1950 Browns vs. LA Rams NFL championship game, first year for the browns in the nfl and playing a team that left 5 years earlier
Today’s question simply asks if you could get in a time machine with tickets to any Cleveland sporting event in history what would it be?
I’d go fast-forward Back to the Future II style and see when the Browns win a Superbowl. Maybe that’s being too optomistic, how about when the Browns make a Superbowl, or maybe the playoffs again…
Today’s question simply asks if you could get in a time machine with tickets to any Cleveland sporting event in history what would it be?
I had 2 answers to this but would turn down a chance to be at Len Barker’s perfect game to go back to the 1964 NFL Championship Game and see the city’s most recent title.
if you could get in a time machine with tickets to any Cleveland sporting event in history what would it be?
I would want to see one of biggest comebacks in Cleveland Indians history. Aug 5, 2001 vs Seattle. The Mariners were up 12-0 after 3 innings and 14-2 after 5. The Tribe went on to win it 15-14 in 11 innings. A close second would be Game 6 of the ’48 World Series

December 24, 1950: Browns vs. Rams NFL Championship. A great game to begin with: 30-28, last-minute Lou Groza field goal, and fans storming the field. But it’d also be great to see the beginning of Browns dominance in the NFL, knowing it’s a good 14 years before Cleveland’s “last” championship and that the people around you are gonna have an awesome ride for awhile yet.

Game 7 of the 1997 World Series. I would give Jose Mesa food poisoning. Or if he refused to eat said chili dog, I would just break his leg. Like someone else said, I’m from the future.
