The Cavaliers announced this afternoon that they have waived forward Samardo Samuels.
Samuels, 23, played in 18 games (1 start) for the Cavaliers this season, averaging 3.2 points and 1.6 rebounds while shooting just 37% and posting a 6.44 PER. His best season came two years ago when he averaged 7.8 points and 4.3 boards in 37 games (10 starts).
Samardo’s contract was non-guaranteed, but all non-guaranteed contracts become guaranteed in the next few days, so this was likely a move showing that the Cavaliers didn’t see him in their future plans. With Tristan Thompson and Tyler Zeller locking up plenty of time in addition to Anderson Varejao when he’s healthy, the Cavaliers have been taking a look at rookie Kevin Jones of late from the power forward slot. The team’s roster now stands at 14.
