Rapoport: Chip Kelly, Browns “Close” To A Deal

It’s being reported by NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport that the Cleveland Browns and Oregon head coach Chip Kelly are close to an agreement that would make Kelly the 6th full-time Browns’ head coach since their return in 1999 and their 16th in franchise history.

Kelly is 46-7 in his four years at Oregon and is highly regarded for his up-tempo, spread offense from which many NFL minds, including the New England Patriots and Bill Belichick, have borrowed. His team was victorious in last night’s Fiesta Bowl over Kansas State by a 35-17 margin. Following the game, Kelly said that he hoped to move quickly in the process, and it appears that Browns owner Jimmy Haslam and CEO Joe Banner meeting with him this afternoon in Phoenix may have accomplished just that.
