I said it before (https://waitingfornextyear.com/2012/12/nfl-coms-ian-rapoport-four-candidates-for-cleveland-head-coach/#comment-752127612)
There was never a chance that O’Brien would leave Penn St. Would have made him look like a fool. After how many stories there were extolling the virtues of those who stayed, and those who are choosing to attend, regardless of sanctions….just no way he could leave.
Time to back up the Brinks truck for Chip Kelly…that is unless Whisenhunt or Lovie are your guy. This is getting interesting.
I am going butch davis gut feeling. Chip Kelly will be the browns new coach. I think it is time for the browns to be on the forefront of innovation in the NFL and Kelly is the guy. Just ask Belichick how he fells about Kelly’s college offense “that will never be successful in the NFL.” Enough with the college coach dont make good NFL coaches hogwash.
On a side note, I really hope the keep Jauron if kelly is hired. He has seemingly good relationship with the players and we all know kelly’s downfall is his lack of defenseive prowess.
How many people can the Browns chase away from top NFL positions?
Josh McDaniels, Bill O’Brien, Matt Barkley…
Chip Kelly is going to set this franchise back 2 more years. Lovie Smith or bust.
Feels like maybe O’Brien decided to stay because he got the feeling he wasn’t going to get the job, so he makes himself look good by pre-empting with his own “I’m staying” announcement. (I have no problem with that fwiw.)
Can we rule out Horton and chalk that up to just filling the Rooney Rule requirement? I really don’t want to switch from the 4-3, and I think Horton would be the only hire that would make us switch. Kelly wouldn’t touch our D, and Lovie/Wiz would keep the 4 man front.
Also, is Lovie even an option at this point? I haven’t heard anything about his Brownie potential
They might want to back up a taco truck too.
Excellent work CB.
