March 19, 2013The Browns are right to lay low with Lombardi
March 19, 2013Yesterday came word that the Indians had informed Matt Capps and Daisuke Matsuzaka that they would not be making the opening day roster.
Now, Paul Hoynes is reporting that Dice-K will accept his role in the minors for the Indians-
“I have told the Indians that my intentions are to stay in the organization,” said Matsuzaka, 32. Matsuzaka said he came to that decision based on his talks with Antonetti and Francona on Monday.
“In speaking with Tito and Chris this morning, they told me they want me on this club and see me in this club,” said Matsuzaka. “They see me as someone who can contribute to this club. Having heard that from them, it definitely made me comfortable about staying here and improving on what I need to improve on so I can make the big league club.”
The Indians will likely start the season (barring injuries of course) with a rotation of Justin Masterson, Ubaldo Jimenez, Brett Myers, Zach McAllister and Scott Kazmir. The team’s AAA affiliate in Columbus would have a possible rotation of Carlos Carrasco, Trevor Bauer, Matsuzaka, David Huff and Corey Kluber.
Matt Capps has yet to give the Indians any indication of his plans to accept a minor league placement. Capps has spent all or part of 8 seasons on major league rosters. In 2010, Capps was an All-Star for the Nationals before being traded to Minnesota. He has 138 saves in his big league career, with 42 of those coming in 2010.
