NFL Free Agency: Add Ellerbe, Toler to Browns’ Wish List

Earlier today, we highlighted a slew of players with who the Browns reportedly had some contact with their representation. Two more names have surfaced later today. They are Cardinals cornerback Greg Toler and Ravens linebacker Dannell Ellerbe, according to Nate Ulrich and Mary Kay Cabot, respectively.

Toler, as Ulrich’s tweet mentions, was in Arizona under Ray Horton for the past two seasons, but an injury cost him the 2011 season. Prior to that, he was a starter (13 of 14 games played) on the 2010 squad, recording 90 tackles, 9 passes defended, and 2 interceptions (1 for TD). Last season, he started just 2 games, but posted numbers of 27 tackles, 8 passes defended, 2 interceptions (1 for TD).

Ellerbe is one of the bigger free agent names on the market. The third-year linebacker had a breakout year in 13 games (7 starts), logging 92 tackles, 4.5 sacks, 2 passes defended, and 1 forced fumble. He also posted 32 tackles in the Ravens’ four playoff games, including an interception in the AFC Championship Game.

much rather have ellerbe than kruger. Kruger is not worth the amount of money that he is supposedly seeking (10 million/year).

If by some miracle, the Browns could walk out with:

    1. Avril- Det. DL/OLB
    2. Ellerbe- Balt. ILB
    3. Cook/Davis/ or Meyers- TE
    4. Felton- Minn. FB
    5. Toler/Lewis/Cason- CB
    6. Vazquez- Chargers Guard or Legursky- Pitts Guard

I would be about as happy as I could be with the off-season.

    may as well add:

    7. Lawrence Taylor – LB
    8. Jim Brown – RB
    9. Deion Sanders – CB
    10. Joe Montana – QB

    while you’re at it.

I hear Deacon Jones is unsigned as well

I like it, although I’m alright with JMJ and DQ in the middle. Ellerbe would be awesome, but only if we get some CBs as well.

We want more, we want more!!!!!

I like the list of guys and if we can address 3 or 4 needs it will greatly improve our team and our draft situations. Filling some needs now allows us to draft best player available or simply find a guy we really like and move down and ad some future selections

OLB, CB, and even FS are the biggest needs to fill. We can rotate JMJ, Robertson, and Fort in the middle with DQ (the leader of the Browns D). No more D-Line talk, we are filthy stacked especially at DT/NT (Rubin and Winn would be 3-4 DE ala Haloti Ngata), only need 3 (Taylor, Hughes, Kitchen) and those guys are big and athletic.

Browns trying to follow the Indians model in FA? If so, it’s a good thing as the Tribe pulled off the biggest coups in the 2012-13 offseason. (Toronto had two big trades with NL East bottom-feeders and ‘lost’ the trade with the Tribe, plus we pulled off the double trade with Cincy and Arizona.)
