NFL News: Jordan Cameron likely default starter at TE for Browns

Third-year tight end Jordan Cameron will reportedly be the starting tight end within Norv Turner’s offense for the Cleveland Browns in 2013.

Nate Ulrich of the Akron Beacon-Journal reports that Cameron, 24, appears locked in at the starting spot with the recently signed (the gargantuan) Kellen Davis and Gary Barnidge merely providing depth. This is all on the heals of the recent departing of veteran tight end Benjamin Watson who missed just three games in his three-year stint with the team.

In two seasons with the Browns, the 6-foot-5-inch Cameron has 26 receptions for 259 yards and a touch-down. The former fourth-round pick was praised by head coach Rob Chudzinski in February, praising his skill set in what will be — if history is any indication — a tight end-heavy offense.

Cameron’s starting role will not have been for lack of an attempted upgrade on behalf of his employer. Once in the running for former Redksins tight end Fred Davis, the Browns appear to have taken their name out of the hat. The team had also been linked to former first-round pick Kellen Winslow Jr, but the team quickly squashed any rumors that the former malcontent would be returning to his old stomping1 grounds. Not owning a second-round pick in the upcoming draft, it is difficult to envision a clear upgrade being acquired heading into the 2013 regular season.

I think Jordan Cameron will be solid. I dont know what all the fuss is about.

If Cameron starts, he’ll have a 45/500/4 season. I think the kid has a ton of upside… just needs to get comfortable with BW3 throwing him the ball. I’m not worried.

Well, at least we’ll find out. I assume he fits the mold Turner wants and they’re gonna give him a shot to sink or swim. If it doesn’t work out they probably draft a TE next year.

I expect a mid round or late pick on a developmental guy. Not sure who that will be, but I bet they have their eyes on a guy or two. Maybe Fauria, Kelce, Sims or Kasa.

Turner turned former BB player Gates into a star, don’t see why he can’t do the same with Cameron

I don’t mind Cameron starting. However, I still feel a reliable veteran WR is still needed. Someone that can move the chains and be a dependable target for Weeden. Possibly D. Hikson.

Reading through the comments it kind of struck me how different we all are in discussing the team this year. Through years past we didn’t have the luxury of talking about just a few upgrades. Heck I can remember discussions debating if starters would even make other teams. I just want to say that no matter how much trepidation I have over different moves or who we may draft etc etc. its nice to discuss things like Cameron without worrying about every other position on the team. Its nice to know that we have an aggressive front office. The fear is no longer if we will upgrade its more in the line of talent evaluation. So my hat goes off to the F.O. just don’t overpay!!!!
