Browns fans to be treated to exclusive NFL-mandated video footage
April 4, 2013NFL News: Browns announce preseason schedule for 2013
April 4, 2013Via press release, the Cleveland Plain Dealer has announced that they will reduce delivery of the long-standing newspaper to three days per week beginning this summer. While the paper will be printed seven days per week, it will be the home delivery which will be partially eliminated. These days are still being determined, but the company says that the popular Sunday edition will remain in the rotation.
Per the release, a “new digitally focused media company” titled the Northeast Ohio Media Group will launch this summer to help meet the rapidly changing needs of local readers and advertisers. To address the changing landscape, all three-day home delivery subscriptions will include access to the seven-day e-edition of the paper.
“These actions are aimed at driving innovation, capitalizing on the tremendous strengths of our existing organizations, preserving high-quality journalism and marketing solutions, and providing greater efficiency and flexibility in serving Northeast Ohio through print and digital applications,” said Terry Egger, retiring Plain Dealer President, Publisher and Chief Executive Officer.
The Plain Dealer reiterated that while staffing decisions have not been finalized, the process of reductions and strategic planning is underway and will be disseminated at some point this summer.
“We are committed to delivering quality journalism and building a sustainable business in an increasingly digital era. We will continue to evolve in ways that best serve our community and meet the needs of our readers and business partners,” added President of the new company, Andrea Hogben.

This further levels the playing field for you guys, WFNY. Please no pay wall though 😉
Looks like its Akron beacon journal for me every morning now
But who will provide me with rampant speculation delivered as hard hitting investigation for the other 4 days a week?!?!?!
It sucks, but this is the inevitability of all newspapers. Younger generations (for the most part) are already going online for their news… as the older generations die off, there won’t be a need for printed newspapers delivered to the home. I think the demand for printed newspapers at news stands and hotels will last for a while longer, though.
In other news, duh.
you forgot: “that was already posted online at least 12 hours earlier”
For a few months until they scale back too…
This is terrible, terrible news. Digital ad space gets 1/16 of newsprint ad space. So going to drive more digital ads? Good business model there. I am online a ton but have relied on my PD for my entire life (I am 36). Well done PD you morons
Will be interesting to see what the other 2 days are; you would think during football season that they would deliver a Monday paper for Browns coverage. On the other hand, that may be a good newsstand-only day to drive sales.
No matter what they do it’s not going to improve the content and there’s little doubt the PD will continue to ignore good local stories, because why would you want to right about people and places in your coverage area?
If they just got rid of Livingston and Shaw, it might save some money.
It’s quite possible that publishing less Browns news on a Monday could be a deliberate and clever public health intervention
I was just thinking about newspapers on the drive in. I was running late (730ish) and I saw someone delivering newspapers out of their van window to homes. If I read the newpaper in the morning, i would want to read it before work, not after.
