May 28, 2013The Cleveland Browns are reportedly set to announce plans for a “Fans Kickoff Concert” at FirstEnergy Stadium on July 14. The headlining act: Bon Jovi.
Though having been snubbed on nomination bids to enter the neighboring Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Jon Bon Jovi, Richie Sambora and Company will help jump-start what could potentially be an annual event under the ownership of Jimmy Haslam III. Haslam has long placed added emphasis on FirstEnergy Stadium being used for events in addition to the ten football games (eight regular season, two preseason) that are played within its confines each year (FirstEnergy Stadium is set to play host to the US Men’s National Team and Belgium later this week.).
Select Browns players will reportedly be on hand to help make the “Kickoff” announcement along with CEO Joe Banner, President Alec Scheiner and local singer/songwriter/radio host Michael Stanley. Cleveland Scene reports that Stanley may in fact be the opening act for Bon Jovi.
Bon Jovi is one of the world’s best-selling bands of all time, having sold more than 100 million records, and performed more than 2,700 concerts in over 50 countries since their launch in 1983. The Browns say they are hosting the concert for fans “to help launch the upcoming football season.”

I thought Sambora was “kicked off” Bon Jovi?
Anyways kudos to Haslam for maximizing the use of First Energy Stadium Home of the Cleveland Browns. I heard a rumor Jim Brown is conducting a raffle to aid in the defense fund for Jimmy Haslam before the game!
nothing says Cleveland football like a guy from Jersey
I like the idea, but there are alot of nationally popular bands with members from the area he could have tabbed instead.
NiN, Bone Thugs n’ Harmony, Joe Walsh, David Grohl, Guns N’ Roses, Tool/Perfect Circle are some of the older obvious names.
Pairing one of them with “The Black Keys” to make the event open to both old and new generations would have been the smart and obvious choice IMO.
“Haslam has long placed added emphasis on FirstEnergy Stadium being used for events in addition to the ten football games (eight regular season, two preseason) that are played within its confines each year…”
What about playoff ga…nevermind, I can’t even type it with a straight face.
Playoffs, playoffs, your talkin’ ’bout playoffs?
Hey it could have been worse he could have tabbed a country artist!
Definitely should’ve been T-Swift
I would pay a significant amount of money to see Grohl/Sound Cty/Foo Fighters/Whatever he’s doing right now, and the Black Keys at the same event.
[Insert Browns related “Livin’ On A Prayer” joke here]
It’s the end of the day and I’m not feeling creative. So this is sort of like when you finish an essay test with bullet points because you ran out of time. Just get the ideas out there.
if they do that, then they need to move it to the beginning of August when I’m in town 🙂
when Haslam said he wanted to have more than 10 events at the stadium per year, I was hoping he meant playoff games.
Awesome! When do tix go on sale?
I couldn’t care less about this. The Browns winning football games at Cleveland Browns Stad… oops, First Energy Stadium, is all I care about. (NOTE: Yeah, I could NOT care less, meaning I don’t care at all. Get the expression straight.)
Richie Sambora isn’t with the band right now and it looks very doubtful that he will be back with them any time soon, including the summer tour dates. Something to keep in mind when buying those tickets. Don’t count on Sambora being there on July 14.
