MLB News: Asdrubal Cabrera and Nick Swisher nearing return

The Indians have been due for some good news and it looks like two of their of their everyday players could be returning to the lineup fairly soon. reporter Jordan Bastian is reporting that both SS Asdrubal Cabrera and 1B Nick Swisher are practicing and could return sometime this upcoming week.

Cabrera, signed through next season, was placed on the 15-day disabled list on June 4th after pulling his quad while running to first base against the Yankees. Asdrubal’s extended absence created a ripple effect that eventually led to the Tribe bringing back former-Indians shortstop/utility infielder John MacDonald. This season, Cabrera is batting .254 with five home runs and 18 doubles and an OPS of .745 in 53 games.

Swisher, acquired by the Indians as a free agent this past winter, hasn’t been the lineup since tweaking his shoulder against the Nationals on June 15th. Swisher,32, is batting .237 with seven home runs and and 14 doubles in 224 at-bats this season.

  • FearTheRoo

Both Swisher and Cabrera have been struggling this year. I guess the good thing is they will be able to replace McDonald and Chisenhall in the lineup.

Cabrera will be replacing Aviles and Swisher should be replacing Reynolds/Stubbs. We’ll still have Chiz at third.
