Perez, out since May 26 with shoulder soreness, allowed two hits and struck out one on Sunday afternoon in his first rehab appearance with Low-A Lake County. It appears that the volatile closer will have to make it through another rehabilitation appearance Tuesday (reportedly in Double-A Akron), but it sounds like he is going to be back in Cleveland by this coming weekend.
On the season, Perez is 2-1 with six saves and a 4.32 ERA in 16 2/3 innings pitched. He is currently in the midst of a drug-related investigation in which he recently plead not guilty to fourth-degree misdemeanor charges. Set-up man Vinnie Pestano will continue to serve as the fill-in closer, notching his first save of the season on Sunday in a 2-0 win over the Washington Nationals.
