Cleveland Browns Greg Little named to “All-Overrated” team

Doug Farrar from Sports Illustrated has included Greg Little in his “All-Overrated” offensive team this season. The 2013 edition is out today and I admit that I was a bit surprised to see Little’s name on the list.

As for Little, he was selected in the second round of the 2011 draft, and we haven’t heard much from him since … except when we’re talking about the passes he drops. So, he’s less “overrated” in a media sense, and more overvalued in an organizational sense. He’smade all the right noises about taking the game more seriously this year.

While I think there are a lot of questions that Greg Little needs to answer this season, I’m unsure exactly who it is that has Greg Little rated so highly that he can be considered “overrated.” Much of what Farrar says is true of Greg Little, but I don’t see anyone ignoring those warnings. Most notably, the Cleveland Browns hedged against Greg Little somewhat when they traded for Davone Bess. Most Browns fans and media that I talk to or read have him rated pretty appropriately as a guy with unharnessed potential and ability to eventually be a good number two receiver in the NFL.

If projecting an athletic former second-rounder to prove to be a good number two receiver is overrating a player coming into his third year as an NFL player, then I am guilty as charged, I guess.

Slow news day i guess for Doug Farrar…

Greg Little has shown all of the right things since the peak of his immaturity (the flap with the poses.)

He has worked on his hands, ate some humble pie when he gave Bess his number, and seems like he is ready to contribute at whatever spot they put him.

Ask anyone who isn’t a Browns fan who Greg Little is and they will say “who?” and not “overrated”

  • The_Real_Shamrock

This is definitely a head scratcher Craig I agree to be overrated you should first be noticeable. To date other then dropping more balls then catching them Little has been MIA.

  • MrCleaveland

Mega-dittoes, Craig. Little hasn’t exactly been swamped with praise, has he?

  • Garry_Owen

As everyone else has already noted:
    (1) Greg Little has been rated?

    And I would add:
    (2) The “All Overrated Team” is a thing?

    In conclusion:
    (3) Where do we vote for the “Most Useless Sportswriter Award”?

Actually, I’m sure there are some fans from opposing teams that remember him dropping some key 3rd down catches last year, particularly early on in the season. But I doubt you’d find anyone who calls him overrated.

Go ahead and give Greg something to post on his locker for motivation. Thanks. He is a #2 receiver lol. Too funny

This makes my Top 10 Comments List of WFNY Commenters (Not Named PorkChopExpress – where has he been, anyway?).

  • RGB

    Browns…overrated…offensive player.
How did those words even make the same article? O_o

  • mgbode

hopefully, he can hold onto it

  • Natedawg86

I think he just needs to relax a Little. Maybe drink a Little less red bull. Lot of enthusiasm, but needs to learn how to funnel a Little into fundamentals.

  • Vindictive_Pat

I too miss P-Chops. He was entirely too sensible to drift into the ether.

  • Vindictive_Pat

Certainly not from me… not until he gets over his YAC allergy.

The whole list is… weird…. It doesn’t seem to be a list of overrated players as much as under-performers. Or maybe overpaid in Chris Johnson’s case. I just don’t get it. When is the last time you’ve heard somebody go on about Josh Freeman or Brandon Pettigrew?

  • Harv 21

yeah, he had some serious flights of fancy. Boy could bring the whimsy.

  • mgbode

I think that was me at my 2011 fantasy football draft (thankfully both as backups, but both as busts even there). whoops.

  • mgbode

Free Porkchop!!!! (and not the Womack variety)

as I agree, not sure we can get through a Browns season without him here.

  • MrCleaveland

Speaking of alumni comings and goings, Oribiasi suddenly reappeared out of nowhere last week and then returned to same.

  • Harv 21

His brief reappearance is marred by suspicion. He commented like he was wearing a dunce cap that said “Will Play Well with Other Children” and like his avatar was a pic of Craig’s index finger poised over the eject button. Don’t weep for Ori. He knew he deal. Just loved his flame thrower more.

  • The_Real_Shamrock

You are misspelling by spelling that posters name correctly.

  • The_Real_Shamrock

He’s pacing himself a la Trent Richardson in the preseason.

  • Garry_Owen

He often spelled it differently, but you are generally correct. I just couldn’t remember the usual spelling.
Buy why are we talking about him like he’s dead?
    Long live PCX!

  • Garry_Owen

    The timing of his departure makes me wonder if PCX wasn’t . . . . . . . . Pat Shurmur!

  • mgbode

then, he should have plenty of time to post while Chip Kelly runs the Eagles offense

  • nj0

If you aren’t a clear starter in a 12-man fantasy league, you can’t be overrated.

  • woofersus

I think it’s a mish-mash of guys who are either overhyped, overpaid, or were over-drafted. Little may not have had a break-out 2nd year like Torrey Smith, but he’s not getting any media hype that I know of, and there have been plenty of WR’s drafted higher than Little who have done worse, including Jonathan Baldwin and Titus Young from that same draft. Little’s 2-year numbers are respectable, if not impressive. It’s weird that he was even on the author’s mind enough to make the list.

  • steve

i dont think even if you are a writer you should be able to bust on another team untill you reveal your favorIte team….so what he says dosent count….unless you browns fans cant see it…there are alot of scared haters out there…..cleveland rocks and they are about to hear
night in the ruts aerosmith style when the season starts….GO BROWNS!!!

Is anyone else annoyed by this banner that drops down at the top of the page? It is even more obtrusive in the mobile format.

  • mgbode

it is actually a fix from the original format that would cover the text on the sides. it’s not too bad and you get used to it after a little while (at least I did).
