WFNY Stats & Info: Miami’s Jose Fernandez dominates the Indians
August 3, 2013While We’re Waiting… More QB Talk, Nick Swisher’s Missing Power, and Alvaro Espinoza
August 4, 2013Family night at FirstEnergy stadium began with a field goal competition. Rookie Brandon Bogotay was on the west end of the Stadium and veteran Shayne Graham was on the east kicking into the Dawg Pound. Both kickers did well, but Bogotay edged out Graham by hitting all six of his kicks, including a 53 yarder. Shayne Graham missed only the 53 yard attempt.
The biggest play of the night was a 40 yard run by 5 year old Ryan Encinas. Ryan took a hand-off from Brandon Weeden and ran to the right and down the sideline for the score, pausing momentarily to recover his own fumble.
Ryan and his family are from Cuyahoga Falls. His cancer has been in remission for two years on August 2nd. When Ryan was two, it was discovered he had a tumor on his left lung. He was hospitalized for six weeks going through chemotherapy and radiation treatments. Ryan starts kindergarten and celebrates his sixth birthday this fall.
The Browns hosted Ryan, his father Robert, his mother Angela Bozic and his little sister Rowan earlier this week at training camp, and wanted to do something special for Ryan. Coach Rob Chudzinski presented Ryan with his own personalized jersey, and he had the chance to put that jersey to use Saturday night. Participating in practice was the idea of head coach Rob Chudzinski’s son. He was brought to the Browns attention by the organization The Littlest Heroes.
Yes, this has been done before. So what? That doesn’t make it any less of the right thing to do. Kudos to the Browns.
– Davone Bess caught several passes for first downs, including a few on third downs. I think Browns fans are going to love what he does for this team. He caught a touchdown pass from Brandon Weeden on the final 11-on-11 session for the first unit.
– The Browns worked on getting the ball out of the shadow of their own end zone with mixed results.
– Brandon Weeden looked better Saturday night than he did the rest of the week.
– Joe Haden picked off another pass deep down the field. He is having a tremendous camp. Coach Chudzinski said he was “On a mission.”
– Billy Winn seemed to hurt his hip or back during the 11-on-11 team drills, but came back on the field and practiced after.
– Coach Chudzinski also praised linebacker Craig Robertson. It is well deserved. Robertson has a chance to be the best undrafted free agent the Browns have signed since taking a guy named Josh Cribbs out of Kent State.
– Brandon Bogotay drilled the majority of his kick-offs out of the end zone. Graham got a couple of his into the end zone. If all things are relatively equal in the place kicking, Bogotay has the edge in kick-offs with a big leg.
– Trent Richardson, T.J. Ward, Montario Hardesty, David Nelson, Trevin Wade, Oniel Cousins and Ryan Miller did not participate in practice.
– The Browns host the St. Louis Rams on Thursday in their first preseason game.
