Is Brandon Weeden an “undervalued” fantasy QB?

We certainly don’t spend a lot of time talking about fantasy football here at WFNY, but I found this ESPN post (insider) about undervalued QBs to be pretty interesting. Brandon Weeden comes in at number seven on their list behind RG3, Ryan Tannehill and Alex Smith among others. The post goes on to compare Weeden’s value to that of AFC North counterpart Andy Dalton.

Apparently Weeden’s average numbers for longer passes compared pretty favorably a year ago. Considering that this was the case in a Pat Shurmur offense that we can all agree didn’t aim to accentuate Weeden’s vertical potential, it give cause to think Weeden might truly be under-drafted in a lot of fantasy leagues this pre-season.

Of course, this probably won’t be the case if you’re in a fantasy league with Cleveland based fans. So, for you I’ll just say that ESPN also named Carson Palmer as an undervalued QB, so you can get a jump on your Cleveland based fantasy owners who will overdraft all the Cleveland Browns players.

In case you were wondering, this is where ESPN’s own fantasy site has Brandon Weeden ranked based on their point projections.

I don’t know San Fran’s defensive backs very well, but I’d trade Greg Little for KC’s Brandon Flowers or Eric Berry in a heartbeat… I don’t think they would do that trade though.

and if Kanicki followed the Chiefs, he’d be pointing out how Bowe is the only WR they have over 6′ who is likely to get significant targets this year.

add that to their obsession with smaller RBs too.

well, the Rams at least invested into their WR corps. Austin and Bailey may flame out, but they at least tried. again, smaller WRs obsession with them.

what if we add in Marecic?

  • Vindictive_Pat

    Nice! And Brian Sanford?

  • The_Real_Shamrock

If he makes the team clearly he has something on Jimmy Haslam.

    Lamont was better!

Have always been a Berry fan. I thought Flowers was overrated but he’s a tough ‘lil son of a gun. Little most definitely has a place with the Browns especially with Gordon suspended two games he just needs to play. I hope.

  • mgbode

considering he just got beat-out for the starting spot by someone 25lbs smaller with no FB experience until this offseason, I think it’s safe to say his days on the Browns are numbered.

  • The_Real_Shamrock

Yea this is true I’m glad Danny Amenduola landed in New England. I’m sure Tom is too!

  • Lucas Vaas

Check out his numbers in the playoffs though… i think he is top 3 or 4 te’s this year…

  • The_Real_Shamrock

I’ll believe it when I see it until then please don’t tease me!

  • mgbode

until he spends half the year injured as usual. when healthy, he’s fantastic

  • The_Real_Shamrock

Danny has been fine tuning his machine this summer knowing he must be available all year for Tommy Dreamer.

It’s a free league on ESPN. I have 8 kids. I don’t pay to play anything. Free online games. Free fantasy leagues. LOL

  • Ben Frambaugh

Just depends on the league you are in and how points are distributed. In my league, where you start 2 QBs, he’s a more valuable commodity.

  • Ben Frambaugh

I had RB/QB early…so I went with my first legit homer pick in the 5th grabbing Little. While I was snagging RB/QB, others were taking WRs. It sort of messed with my strategy some. LOL Wish my work network would allow me to check my fantasy team. I actually think I’ll compete for a playoff spot, LOL. (I only do this for fun…and there are some guys I refuse to take no matter how much they might help my team win.)

    “I have 8 kids.”

    On purpose?!?

  • Ben Frambaugh

LOL – not really. Last three, protection failed (each a different type of protection.) As it is, my wife and I each have one from a previous and 6 together.

  • Ben Frambaugh

Last 3, not so much. Protection failed…but my wife and I love them all the same. LOL
