August 28, 2013The Cleveland Indians have placed outfielder Ryan Raburn on the 15-day Disabled List with a strained left Achilles tendon (retroactive to August 19). Taking Raburn’s spot on the 25-man roster is outfielder Matt Carson who had his contract purchased from AAA Columbus.
Raburn has missed 10 of the last 11 games since August 14 with continued soreness in his left foot and begins his third career stint on the Major League Disabled List today. He is hitting .270 (53-195) with 14 doubles, 15 home runs and 41 RBI in 70 games and currently sports a season OPS of .940. He is eligible for activation on September 3.
Prior to Tuesday’s game against the Braves, Raburn reportedly did some running drills in left field and took part in batting practice.
“It’s pretty close,” Raburn told the media in attendance. “We’re just trying to weigh the best options and the other thing is we don’t want to put it at a point where I get reinjured and I’m hurt the rest of the year. We’ve got some big games coming up.”
Carson, 32, has spent the entire 2013 Minor League campaign at Triple-A Columbus where he has hit .252 with 16 doubles, 2 triples, 14 home runs and 49 RBI while stealing 14 bases in 18 attempts (78%). The Temecula, CA native, who was signed in November to a Minor League contract with spring training non-roster invite, is hitting .270 (.773OPS) vs. left-handed pitching for the Clippers. He has appeared in 68 games in right field, 30 games in center and 38 games in left field at Triple-A and is hitting .329 since July 31. Carson appeared in 26 games for the Minnesota Twins in 2012.

PANIC
Welp.
I’m sure the Indians contacted the Cubs about David DeJesus or the Blue Jays about Bonafacio or the Mets about Byrd.
I think the Giants released Jeff Francouer. If he catches on with another team it would be his third but trust in Carson, you don’t appear to have a choice.
