NFL News: Montario Hardesty scheduled for arthroscopic surgery

On Thursday, instead of playing in Cleveland’s second preseason game against the Lions, running back Montario Hardesty will be having arthroscopic surgery on his knee.

The knee scope is the latest in a series of physical setbacks for the fourth year player from the University of Tennessee.

Hardesty was hampered with a hamstring injury during camp, and on Monday dislocated his thumb. Coach Rob Chudzinski said that the knee injury isn’t related to the hamstring issue, but that it had been bothering him for some time.

Montario has played in just 46% of the Browns’ games since being drafted, missing all of 2010. He is being pressed for a roster spot by Dion Lewis, Brandon Jackson and Chris Ogbonnaya.

If Hardesty is unable to play for any length of time he could be a candidate to go on the PUP list.

Before this I thought he might be the odd man out at RB but now I think so even more. The people who questioned his selection by the guru Heckert were right.

The sure signs of August: the harvest moon, back-to-school sales, the Feast of the Assumption in Little Italy, Montario in the hospital.

I read that he hurt his thumb when he got hit with a direct snap from center. How is that even possible?

And thus ends the sad Montario odyssey. Old man knees in his early 20s, dislocates his thumb reaching for an errant snap, some tendon somewhere always tight … some talented guys just don’t have the rock bodies the brutal game demands.

Oh well, I’ll always have the 7 carries of his first exhibition game in 2010, before he limped off for surgery. They were electrifying, compared to the RBs then on the roster. Godspeed, Montario. I’ll think of you when I page through my Lawyer Tilman/Courtney Brown scrapbooks.

That was my question. I don’t see how you keep a guy on the team who can’t even handle a snap without being injured.

    Gotta love injury proned RBs

Yeah, some picks really stand out as questionable at the time of the draft…that was one that I struggled to get excited for.

THEY KNEW THIS WHEN THEY DRAFTED HIM…yet the ‘war room” on draft day(talking about toy soldiers)…scratches its collective head and wonders why they have a perennial cellar dweller

I’m no doctor, but arthroscopic knee surgery seems like an odd procedure for a thumb injury
