TD talking Tribe, Browns and turkey sandwiches – WFNY Podcast – 2013-08-14

WFNY Podcast LogoI couldn’t get a proper cold cuts conversation out of Brian Spaeth, so I saw an opening with TD and I grabbed it! Also, make sure you let us know what you think of the two songs I put together as potential replacements for our opening sounder.

  • The Indians collapse
  • Craig tries out two new songs as potential openers for the podcast
  • Is it good enough to just contend late in the season?
  • Do the Indians have any more free agency options in the bank?
  • Dropping the payroll to the bottom of the league in payroll
  • Asdrubal Cabrera probably won’t be in Cleveland next year
  • Where does the growth come from in Terry Francona’s second year?
  • Has Prince Fielder been a problem of a contract?
  • Asdrubal Cabrera as cleanup hitter is a joke
  • Mark Reynolds had one of the strangest seasons I’ve ever seen in my life
  • Lonnie Chisenhall and what he can become or not
  • Nick Swisher and how nobody kills him
  • Chris Perez’ time in Cleveland is just over
  • Could it have been any different?
  • “If I told you in April” arguments
  • Making the playoffs and whether it is a mandate for this season
  • Never changing names in the front office for the Indians
  • Eric Mangini’s draft in 2009
  • Tim Couch’s career
  • Barkevious Mingo and how it’s nice that he’s not pressed into starting right away
  • This could be the healthiest coaching staff we’ve ever seen
  • Paul Kruger and Desmond Bryant
  • Explaining tailgating to your 5 year old son
  • Improvements around Cleveland Browns Stadium

In regards to the music: in that first sample I liked the drum corps snare kind of sound that was happening and I really liked the little outro bit. In my head I was envisioning a song that combined those two elements as one entity. Granted, a lot of theoretical songs sound better in my head than when I try to flesh them out.

    RE: intro music

In the first clip, I really like the industrial sound towards the end (right before the soft outro). It represents the industrial roots of Cleveland.

The second clip reminded me of a circus, which is probably appropriate for Cleveland sports.

ok, first podcast I’ve listened to in a while (because WFNY’s require such a significant time/attention commitment).

    TD:

    - Masterson will not be the anchor of the rotation through next season unless we are clearly playoff bound, and even then … They aren’t going to let him walk at the end of ’14 to the highest bidder and get nothing. And if he’s having a sucky season or hurt, he’s not a rotation anchor. So let’s think about the 2014 Indians accordingly. When will he leave, and what will we have in his stead?

    - Trade Lonnie while he still has trade value? If he’s not playing like a starter, another team is just buying his young age and unmet potential. They wouldn’t give up much, if we’re giving up on him already. I think he’s more valuable to us, given there’s no good third basemen in the system and Aviles is a good utility guy.

    - You’re saying we can anticipate Santana stepping up next year. Again? Not sure why you don’t slmilarly anticipate a step up from Chisenhall at age 24. Santana has flashes that he can’t sustain but is older and deteriorating defensively. Can’t think of a young player who gets so much benefit of the doubt, year after year, since Joe Charboneau.

    - Re the local Browns Love, I think Craig has it right. The Browns sell hope before they bash fans’ heads on the rocks. Randy may have been absent, but we all saw how desperately he hoped someone, anyone, would just take his wallet and do it right. And if the org veered crazily from philosophy to philosophy, at least we see they’re desperately trying. The Dolans have been an elderly guy in his cardigan sweater with his pipe and paper. Stability and quiet, that’s what they want most. “Settle down now, folks, these things tend to work themselves out.”

Love the podcast! I listen to most of them and it keeps me informed on the Cleveland sports scene down in Columbus. Keep up the good work. I liked the old music but it’s probably time for a change. I’ll let you know what I think when I listen to the new pod.

I love a TD podcast… well done guys, that was fun. I agree, song #1 is the winner for me as well.
